Fluctuation natural

Their random, fluctuating nature prevents these domains from destructively interfering with each other s scattered light. [Pg.679]

The power required for pumping will be given by the product of the volumetric flowrate and the pressure difference between the pump outlet and the discharge end of the pipeline. Taking note of the fluctuating nature of the flow, it is necessary to consider the energy transferred to the fluid over a small time interval and to integrate over the cycle to obtain the mean value of the power. [Pg.373]

Simulations are then performed for gas bubbles emerging from a single nozzle with 0.4 cm I.D. at an average nozzle velocity of lOcm/s. The experimental measurements of inlet gas injection velocity in the nozzle using an FMA3306 gas flow meter reveals an inlet velocity fluctuation of 3-15% of the mean inlet velocity. A fluctuation of 10% is imposed on the gas velocity for the nozzle to represent the fluctuating nature of the inlet gas velocities. The initial velocity of the liquid is set as zero. An inflow condition and an outflow condition are assumed for the bottom wall and the top walls, respectively, with the free-slip boundary condition for the side walls. [Pg.19]

Control facilities, and other projects, will have to be designed and implemented to enable the safe and effective management and operation of future, fluctuating natural gas supply and demand. [Pg.57]

Up to the 70-ies gas consumption was dominated mainly by industry (heavy industry, chemical industry, electricity, etc.), but the demand for household gas supply increased permanently. This process significantly has changed the structure of gas consumption, because the earlier consumption was without peak periods and was mainly independent from seasons, whereas current demand is of strongly fluctuating nature having peak consumption periods depending on yearly seasons. [Pg.231]

The analyses of the tables reflect the complexity, the diversity of components and the fluctuating natural conditions, as well as the characteristics of the high mountainous folded Alpine system The Caucasus and its central part, Georgia, is a typical representative of such mountainous system. [Pg.250]

The picture of the translation closely parallels die rotational picture. In this case the counterpart of the Anderson model is the random jump model (see Section VIII). An important theoretical prediction of the reduced model of Section FV is the deviation from Pick s law, which is firmly supported by experiment. Note that this deviation precisely depends on the fluctuating nature of the reduced model. On the other hand, the theoretical analysis of Chapter VI shows that this multiplicative fluctuation must be traced back to the nonlinear nature of the microscopic interaction, therby rendering plausible the appearance of non-Gaussian microscopic prop es. [Pg.317]

Unfortunately, Florentine thermometers, or any thermometers of the time, were not very accurate no two thermometers gave the same temperature, since there was no universal acceptance of liquid type or agreement on what to use for a scale. Makers of Florentine thermometers marked the lowest scale as the coldest day in Florence that year and the highest scale for the hottest day. Since temperature fluctuations naturally occur over the years, no two thermometers gave the same temperature. For several years Fahrenheit experimented with this problem, finally devising an accurate alcohol thermometer in 1709 and the first mercury or quicksilver thermometer in 1714. [Pg.106]

In experiments on pulse water superheat on a thin platinum wire it has been established that the shock boiling-up regime, when the determining contribution to evaporation is made by centres of fluctuation nature, is realized at heating rates above 10 K/s. ° In experiments with other liquids a heating rate of 10 K/s will suffice to achieve the shock regim. ... [Pg.258]

Unfortunately, the exact spin structure of the LMAF state is not known, but neutron diffraction demonstrates that the SMAF and the LMAF states are not closely related. The fluctuating nature is seen in the iSR data for the SMAF state, which contrasts with the... [Pg.359]

The limit thexmodynamlc nonequilibrium corresponds to the attainment of liquid superheats at which intensive spontaneous boiling is observed on nucleus bubbles of fluctuation nature. The physical definiteness of this boundary is conditioned by a very shazi> dependence of the nucleation rate J(T. P ) on the Gibbs number G- = A T where is the work of formation of a critical, nucleus [4 5j. is the Boltzmaim constant. By the homogeneous nucleation theory the value of J is calculated making use of thermodynamic parameters. Thus, for water at atmospheric pressux T have J ... [Pg.182]

The first type of flow at low velocities where the layers of fluid seem to slide by one another without eddies or swirls being present is called laminar flow and Newton s law of viscosity holds, as discussed in Section 2.4A. The second type of flow at higher velocities where eddies are present giving the fluid a fluctuating nature is called turbulent flow. [Pg.48]

Abstract. The quality in the prediction of turbulent reactive flows requires mainly two essential ingredients, namely an appropriate treatment of the fluctuating nature of turbulence in the calculation of averaged chemical source-terms and a realistic model of chemical kinetics for the case of homogeneous reaction. The first one is most generally established by the usage of Probability-Density-Functions (PDF s), the second one is provided by the application of detailed reaction mechanisms. [Pg.253]

Gas hold-ups were determined from the EIT reconstructions by using the resistivity distribution of continuous phase as a reference. Gas-liquid resistivity distributions were compared to the reference and three-dimensional images were formed. If resistivity is assumed to depend linearly on the gas hold-up, relative differences in gas hold-up are obtained from EIT results between the various locations. Actually, the relation between the conductivity and the gas hold-up is slightly non-linear (Mwambela and Johansen 2001) and therefore calibration experiments are needed to determine gas volume density distributions. Due to the fluctuating nature of gas-liquid flow some abnormal resistivity distributions were obtained with EIT and the averaging of several experiments is necessary to get accurate resistivity fields from the mixed tank. Abnormal resistivity distributions were also found at the boundaries like at the liquid surface and the bottom of the tank. [Pg.777]
