Recently a new family of fabric care products appeared on the market. Called fabric conditioners, they are actually fabric softeners with enhanced antiwrinkle properties. By facilitating the ease of ironing, they address the basic consumer need of spending less time in one of the most tedious household chores. One of these products moreover exhibits completely different aesthetics from traditional fabric softeners, drawing attention to its specificity. [Pg.496]

The material is prepared by Diels-Alder reaction of 1,3-pentadiene and mesityl oxide and subsequent aldol condensation of the resulting acetyl trimethyl cyclohexene with acetaldehyde [99]. Due to its excellent substantive properties, <5-damascone is mainly used in perfumes for fabric care products. [Pg.71]

C11H20O, Mr 168.28, ng° 1.444-1.451, dgj 0.860-0.869, is a colorless liquid with a radiant and fresh geranium note. It creates fresh green top notes in fragrances, especially for air fresheners and fabric care products. The material is produced by a Prins reaction of re-valeraldehyde with 2-methyl-l-penten-4-ol the latter is obtained by deydration of hexylene glycol [183e]. [Pg.153]

As a broad spectrum microbicide with long lasting activity Tinosan is used in home and fabric care products such as dishwashing liquids, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, surface cleaner. Addition rates move between 0.3-0.6%. The incorporation of the pumpable formulation is easy. The persistant activity after application of Tinosan containing household products has been confirmed and reported by Ochs et al. (1999). [Pg.566]

Substances other than enzymes can be immobilized. Examples include the fixing of heparin on polytetrafluoroethylene with the aid of PEI (424), the controUed release of pesticides which are bound to PEI (425), and the inhibition of herbicide suspensions by addition of PEI (426). The uptake of anionic dyes by fabric or paper is improved if the paper is first catonized with PEI (427). In addition, PEI is able to absorb odorizing substances such as fatty acids and aldehydes. Because of its high molecular weight, PEI can be used in cosmetics and body care products, as weU as in industrial elimination of odors, such as the improvement of ambient air quaHty in sewage treatment plants (428). [Pg.13]

Fatty alcohol and fatty acid ethoxylates are amphiphilic compounds that are commonly used as nonionic surfactants and emulsifiers in many applications, such as cosmetic and care products and in textile fabrication. They serve as antistatic lubricants and viscosity regulators. [Pg.395]

When my parents come here they have to detox their clothes because they re used to using fabric softener. They also have to use the shampoo and personal care products I provide because I get sick from their shampoo and other things they are accustomed to using. [Pg.213]

Sodium hydroxide is the most widely used strong base in the chemical industry. It exists as a white, odorless, crystalline solid at room temperature. Sodium hydroxide is a highly corrosive and toxic substance and is called caustic soda or lye. Sodium hydroxide is used as an alkali in the production of numerous products including detergents, paper, synthetic fabrics, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is the ingredient in many common cleaners, degreasers, drain cleaners, and personal care products. [Pg.257]

Softeners and Anti-stats. A recent formulation trend is to incorporate fabric care benefits, such as softening and anti-static properties, into textile cleaning products in both powder and liquid fomi. The most common ingredient used is ditallnw dimethyl ammonium chloride, the same material used in many liquid fabric-softener products ... [Pg.480]

Gas hydrate inhibitors. Gas hydrates, solid water clathrates containing small hydrocarbons, are problematic for oil and gas production because they can precipitate and cause line blockage. Simple cationic surfactants containing at least two butyl groups were previously developed to inhibit formation of gas hydrate precipitates in gas production lines [87]. However, similar to the situation with cationic drag reduction additives, poor toxicity profiles prevent widespread commercial acceptance. Ester quaternaries with structures somewhat similar to those used in fabric care have been claimed as hydrate inhibitors [88 ]. Additionally, certain alkylether quaternary compounds, e.g. C12-C14 alkyl polyethoxy oxypropyl tributyl ammonium bromide, were shown to have hydrate inhibition properties [89]. [Pg.165]

A major cost advantage for fabricating plastic products in production has been and will continue to be their usual relatively low processing cost. The most expensive part of practically all products is the cost of plastics. Since the material value in a plastic product is roughly up to one-half (possibly up to 90%) of its overall cost, it becomes important to select a candidate material with extraordinary care particularly on long production runs. Cost to fabricate usually represents about 5% (usual maximum 10%) of total cost. [Pg.140]

Contact lenses are made of polymeric materials designed and fabricated to correct vision. Because these lenses are removed from the eye after a prescribed wear time, lens care products are required to clean, disinfect and rinse them prior to reinsertion to avoid ocular infections and other complications. Lens care products are also required to enhance the comfort of lens wear. [Pg.2202]
