Evaluation criteria

Experience has shown that abstract testing of labels is for the most part of limited usefulness. Useful results require a fairly precise statement of what the labeler wants the proposed label to achieve, e.g., the goals of the specific labeling project. Once goals have been decided on there are usually three major criteria against which to evaluate results. [Pg.27]

In developing a label it is crucial that the labeler be able to state what the design must communicate in a given period of exposure time. Testing at various exposure periods will therefore yield desired effectiveness data. [Pg.27]

Optical Efficiency As discussed in above sections, the ability to perceive a label design varies with certain optical characteristics. After establishing the exposure time criterion the labeler must also define the distance at which viewing is to be tested and the level of illumination required and then state what elements of the label are to be perceived and remembered. Two criterion variables are then measured for the test label and compared to another version or to a competitive label. [Pg.27]

Finally, preliminary diagnostic evaluation criteria, based on preventive identification of critical areas of interest on the monitored item, spatial concentration of localized AE events as compared with average AE event density and evolution of local event concentration vs time and/or plant parameters, have been worked out and submitted to extensive testing under real operation conditions.
