Staff development

Once the safety department had settled down, a selection process based on merit was started, and the two successful candidates were sent to attend the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Professional Development Conference (PDC) in the United States. This was the first time safety staff had ever attended an international safety conference. Other safety staff members were elected to attend safety courses in Dubai, also a first for safety. The department was renamed from plant protection (security) to safety, health, and environment and was later moved to new premises. One of the resident safety officers was finally appointed as a safety supervisor on the same grade as a superintendent after his promotion had been overlooked for the last 20 years.

Usually, there will be a department or individual with a central role in the planning process. You should spend time with these staff developing an understanding both of the planning process and the evaluation criteria they use for including expenditures in their budgets. If your project has top level backing, some costs may be absorbed by corporate this is most likely to be the case if costs are incurred well ahead of any benefits. 

Plan ahead for those brief periods of slack time, and use them productively. In many laboratories, instrument maintenance, operator training, and staff development are in chronic deficit. During slack time, those deficits can be addressed.

As a subject matter expert on the process, the owner has the capacity to deliver results outlined in the list of owner responsibilities, mentor future process owners, assist in staff development, and accurately guide management in its strategy related to the process. The process owner s personal development of his or her process expertise is essential in delivering operational results and providing direction for future strategic changes to the process.

Contaminated patients pose a hazard to their attendants. Secondary contamination by contact with liquids or solids, e.g. powders, is an obvious risk, while off-gassing of volatile agents from clothing is, perhaps, less obvious. However, it was noted in the Tokyo subway incident (see Chapter 13) that hospital staff developed miosis as a result of exposure to sarin (GB) given off by patients clothing. The patients had themselves not been exposed to liquid sarin but only to sarin vapour and yet enough had been adsorbed...

Systematic faculty and staff development programs should incorporate attention to diversity and inclusion issues that are relevant to the specific faculty or staff functions (Chism 8c Whitney, 2005). At Alliant, the university s articulated faculty and staff competencies (see Table 16.2) provide a framework for ongoing professional development. 

A QA process model consists of elements representing software development staffs, software QA staffs, development activities, QA activities and documents generated. Our major concern, quality, is represented as defects density. Each element is represented as a node and is coimected based on its casual relation with other elements. Each node is further designated with 2 5 states representing its status, for example, the undesired event is represented as defect density at high status. In reality, the relation between QA process elements is not static and fixed, i.e., the influence of one node on the other node often exhibits probabilistic and interactive behavior. In order to represent the probabilistic behavior of QA process, we apply Bayesian Belief Network (BBN)(Jensen, 1996) technique. A typical QA process represented in BBN is shown in Fig 3. 

The recent installation of MACCS-II with the Customisation and DBMS Interface modules has provided the capability to interface chemical structures with ancillary data. After receiving training from Molecular Design Limited, the CDD staff and Corporate computer support staff developed screens and sequences to customise MACCS-II for the MSDRL environment, and to replace the current version of MACCS. An orientation program was prepared to acquaint the user community with the new facilities and commands. Technical assistance was given to convert, where necessary, the scientists project files. 

Human Resources Human resources department selects the personnel and is responsible for the staff development. It also covers the staff assignment and the personnel controlling and takes care of time management, travel expenses, the wage and salary administration, and the maintenance of staff-related master data. 

Foucault s framework of ethics could provide a structure for staff development, helping teachers to attend to the work they wish to do on themselves in order to be more inclusive. Staff development for practising teachers, instead of being a content driven attempt to skill them up in response to the latest government imperative, conld provide a smooth space for teachers to pause, think and repair some of the damage...
