Recommended Illumination Levels for Various Locations or Tasks... 

Flare, Illumination A flare designed to provide a constant, uniform illumination level on the ground was patented in 1973 (Ref 1).

In the following treatment we will assume that under the illumination conditions em- + ployed in the experiments reviewed above, only the interfacial H concentration is appreciably altered by changes in the illumination level, iJj. The reciprocal derivatives of the j/V curve under illumination at open circuit and short circuit represent the series and parallel resistances Rs and Rp, respectively, of the diode device. Of course, for non-linear effects in the diode, these quantities are not constant but depend on voltage V, current density j (illumination level), reverse saturation current density jtev, and temperature T.

Recipients were requested to propose the level of exposure in terms of energy output. Inclusion of an approximate relationship between this and real exposures would be welcomed" for all three of these options. The JPMA proposed a 24-hour exposure time for part 2 of Option 1. The EFPIA suggested an exposure time of 24 hours for Option 2 (no irradiance/illumination level given) while the JPMA suggested and overall illumination of 10 lux hours, considered equivalent "to 90 days average exposure." The maximum energy emission of the UV-A lamp was widened in this draft to now include 350 nm, for a new specification of "between 350 and 370 nm". 

The system of Wall et al. (17) consisted of a large Norlake walk-in temperature and humidity-controlled chamber containing fluorescent lamps and a large number of individual sensors to monitor the chambers 160 shelves. This system was computerized to measure all-important parameters including illumination levels, automatically, continuously. 

ISPD. The ISPD provides a linear dynamic range (1-32) of at least 16,384 1 Q4 bit A/D converter). At illumination levels above 4 x 10"5 foot candle (with a corresponding output brightness of approximately 1 foot lambert), the MCP saturates and thereafter has a non-linear transfer characteristic. However, this level is way above the A/D converter saturation level and has no implications on low light level spectroscopy.
