An important feature of the conference s concept was the involvement of representatives from defence-related industries and research centres the economic conversion of the defence sector in the East and West offers new opportunities to apply this sector s vast experience and resources in areas of environmental concern. The ecological problem of sea-dumped CW in particular not only has direct relevance to the military industry, but requires much specific experience (i.e. in weapons destruction or underwater technologies) which may be obtained only from the defence industry and science of the countries concerned. [Pg.2]

In many industrial applications, for example, in Aerospace applications and defence sectors, the titanium alloy could be exposed to hot-wet or hot-dry environments, and consequently, studies have focussed on identification of the best performing pre-treatment for particular environmental conditions and stress states. [Pg.380]

BMW, Ford, GKN, Honda, Nissan, Peugeot and Toyota. In the aerospace and defence sector, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty and Smiths Group play an important role. [Pg.85]

A speciality market exist in the aviation sector for engine start-up and emergency electrical power supply. Space and defence represent minor but stable market segments. [Pg.43]

From the societal viewpoint the critical infrastructure there are mutually interconnected networks and systems that include the identified sectors and institutions (including humans and procedures) that provide the reliable flow of products and services substantive for defence and economic safety, that is understood as the state capability to compete on global markets while there are on acceptable level the real public incomes and the public administration functions on each society levels (Moteff et al. 2003). It means that the critical infrastructure is a set of partial infrastructures from different sectors of a human system (see e.g. act No. 183/2006 Col.), that are composed of physical elements and of processes that used these elements for fulfilment of the tasks of each partial infrastructure. A functionality of this set of partial infrastructures predetermines the human system safety (Prochazkova 2007a). It is caused by a fact that to economic safety there are joined the other ones (Moteff et al. 2003), the physical safety that is connected with risks caused from disasters of all kinds and the cyber safety that is connected with the disasters affecting the computer networks. Individual items o f each infrastructure according to this work are subdivided to elements and typical processes as there are the distribution, storage, payments, recycling, data transfer, transport etc. [Pg.1775]

Safety cases were subsequently extended to other sectors, particularly those in which there is the potential for major loss of life such as rail, nuclear and defence. While the scope, content, structure, regulation and organisational aspects of safety cases and safety case regimes necessarily varies among the different sectors, the overall purpose and nature of a safety case remains the same to demonstrate by argument and evidence that a system is safe. [Pg.29]

Domestic contract electronics manufacturers are struggling to survive in a market where the major multinationals can shift production to those areas where labour costs are lowest. All is not lost however as the recent management buy-in, buy-out operation of AWS Electronics at Newcastle-under-Lyme illustrates. This contract electronics manufacturer with 270 employees and annual sales in excess of 12 million serves global businesses in the aerospace, communications, defence, food, medical and scientific technology sectors. [Pg.54]

Safety cases have been increasingly accepted as an assurance technique by many industrial sectors, e.g. defence, air traffic control, railway, automobile and medical devices [1]. In the past decade, there are considerable research and application efforts placed on safety case notations, safety case life cycles, argument patterns, safety case tools and argument and evidence meta-models. However, a supportive element in the safety case development process, the strategy for describing the relationships between safety claims of different levels has not been emphasized as much as other key safety case elements, e.g. claims and evidence items. [Pg.384]
