Resistance breathing

The low breathing resistance of helium—oxygen mixtures is of therapeutic advantage for patients suffering from asthma and other obstmctive respitatory difficulties. The mixtures have also been used for hyperbaric therapy. [Pg.17]

Air line respirators are similar to hose respirators, except that they are supplied with compressed air from a clean air source and compressor. They provide complete protection, and because they offer little in the way of breathing resistance, they are more suitable than hose respirators for prolonged use. There are two basic types continuous flow and demand flow. [Pg.145]

Like diphenylehlorarsine, diphenylaminechlorarsine is most effective when disseminated a.s a smoke, but when atomized, either by explosion or disUUation, it readily penetrates the gas-mask canister unless fittt with the most efficient type of dust filter. Such filters have been devel-ofwy all modern annies but they always increase the breathing resist-. mce of the canister and add to the difficulty of securing adequate protection. [Pg.235]

The future of the respiratory irritants b somewhat difficult to estimate. The experimental work done by the Allies toward the end of, and since, the World War showed conclusively that these compounds an innuendously effective when thermally distilled and disseminated a. toxic smokes while all modem masks contain special filters for protecting against these smokes, the protection is only relative and greatly adds to the breathing resistance of the mask. All things considered, it is believed that these compounds are destined to play an important part in gas warfare of the future. [Pg.235]

The S10 is due to be replaced by the General Service Respirator (GSR) in 2006/2007, to meet the continued changing requirements. The GSR design is yet to be finalized, but will incorporate further improvements to protection and equipment compatibility, with improved vision and speech, and reduced breathing resistance. [Pg.159]

Ventilated- faceplate Series of individual respiratory systems (or masks) serviced by a common filter. Clean working area subject to inadvertent entry of contamination. High work rate, reduced breathing resistance. Frequent entry and exit movements. Brief inside occupation. Infantry fighting vehicles. Seif-propeiied howitzers. [Pg.103]

This is illustrated in Fig.lO [26] where the flow resistance per unit of bed depth and per unit of flow velocity is plotted against fee mean diameter of the particles. Unfortunately, the kinetics of adsorption are inversely proportional to the mean diameter of the activated carbon particles. As a result, smaller particles exhibit better adsorption characteristics but cause a higher breathing resistance. This can be overcome by using assisted filtration in which... [Pg.486]

Developmental objectives in personal respiratory protection equipment generally encompass factors such as personal comfort, breathing resistance, mask weight, and the ability to provide protection from new agents. Present equipment has met a number of these objectives but much remains to be done, especially in the area of new and improved chemical-resistant materials, manufacturing methods, and scratch-resistant lenses. All of these items must be integrated into a new, reliable, less cumbersome, and less degrading system. [Pg.365]

The mask is connected to two C2A1 canisters, which lower breathing resistance. A hose assembly that attaches to the two C2A1 canisters is located on the left cheek. The canisters are attached to a motor blower unit (capacity 4 cu ft/min), which is powered either by aircraft electrical power or a... [Pg.369]

These factors may cause the breathing resistance to increase sigruAcantly. A Alter change is due, at the very least, if smell, taste, or irritation is perceived. [Pg.235]

If an employee does detect vapor or gas breakthrough, changes in breathing resistance, or leakage of the facepiece, you need to investigate the situation and replace or repair the respirator before allowing the employee to retrum to work. [Pg.706]

Filters used for quantitative fit testing shall be replaced whenever increased breathing resistance is encountered, or when the test agent has altered the integrity of the filter media. [Pg.370]

Breathing resistance—The resistance that can build up in a chemical respirator cartridge that has become clogged by particulates. [Pg.293]

Cold weather gear can cause conflict in areas like manual dexterity and tool use. Heavy work such as shovelling can be dilficult if a respirator creates serious breathing resistance. [Pg.159]

M is pleased to intrtxluce the new 3M VRex Particulate Respirators 9105 and 91 OSS, N95. Unique V-shaped pleats expand to help provide a comfortable. seal and to flex with mouth movements for easier talking. The increased. surface area of the v-shaped pleats, in combination with the 3M patented filter media, results in lower breathing resistance and helps make breathing easier. 3M, wwwJMroni/VFlex,... [Pg.94]
