Based on turnover value, the largest part of the plastic pipe industry is probably that part concerned with placing the pipes in their position of usage, above or below ground. But this is a very diverse industry and its pipe laying activities cannot be separated from other aspects of civil engineering and building construction. Whilst for some companies pipework may be a trivial proportion of their construction activities, for others it may be their main specialisation. [Pg.87]


As in the construction industry, piling of the conductor is done by dropping weights onto the pipe or using a hydraulic hammer until no further penetration occurs. In an offshore environment the conductor is either piled (e.g. on a platform) or a large diameter hole is actually drilled, into which the conductor is lowered and cemented. In Western Europe the largest user is the vehicle construction industry where ABS has been used for fascia panels, door covers, door handles, radiator grilles, ventilation system components, heater housings, seat belt fastenings, console panels, loudspeaker housings, interior trim and other uses. For some years there was extensive use of electroplated ABS. Whilst this continues to be used for nameplates, reflectors and other parts where a bright reflecting surface is a requirement, it has tended to fall out of favour simply for decoration. [Pg.464]

Aluminum is very malleable, as anyone can see from the thin rolls of aluminum foil (sometimes wrongly called tin foil ) used in modem kitchens.
