Coating electrical insulator coatings

Polyesters are also used in continuous filament spunbonded nonwovens (see Nonwoven fabrics). Reemay spunbonded fabric is composed of continuous filament PET with a polyester copolymer binder. These spunbonded fabrics are available in a wide range of thicknesses and basis weights and can be used for electrical insulation, coated fabric substrates, disposable apparel for clean rooms, hospitals, and geotextiles (qv). [Pg.334]

Cathodic protection cannot work with prestressed concrete structures that have electrically insulated, coated pipes. There is positive experience in the case of a direct connection without coated pipes this is protection of buried prestressed concrete pipelines by zinc anodes [38], Stability against H-induced stress corrosion in high-strength steels with impressed current has to be tested (see Section 2.3.4). [Pg.428]

Organosiloxanes are very heat resistant, so they do not easily melt, like most other organic compounds. They are also water-repellant and can withstand extremes of sunlight, moisture, cold, and attack by most chemicals. These properties make them useful for protective coatings, electrical insulation, adhesives, lubricants, paints, and rubber-like materials. Some silicones are also used to make nonstick... [Pg.593]

Copolymers (S acrylonitrile have been proposed for a large variety of other industrial applications. These include adhesives, electrical insulation, coatings for leather, paper, and textiles, impregnating agents for paper, and components of surface coatings. [Pg.1024]

Fatty bisamides are used primarily to increase slip, reduce blockiog, and reduce static in polymeric systems. Other specialty appHcations include cosolvents or coupling agents for polyamide resins, fillers for electrical insulation coatings, additives for asphalt to reduce cold flow, and synthetic waxes for textile treatments (68). Bisamides have been used in all the traditional primary amide applications to increase lubricity and have become the amide of choice because of their better efficiency. Bisamides have the highest commercial value in the amide market. [Pg.186]

Assuming that the protection system consists of a combination of coating and cathodic protection, the required current for protection is multiplied by the coating breakdown factor, /j, which is the anticipated reduction in cathodic current due to the application of an electrically insulating coating. Poly(imide-co-amides) are easier to produce and to process than aromatic polyamides or polyimides. Like these, they are used in particular for electrical insulation coatings. As the ratio of imide/amide increases, the thermal stability of the copolymers increases, but the flexibility of the product deteriorates. [Pg.1008]

In reality, aircraft parts can consist of several stacked layers of material, eonnected by rivets or bolts. To avoid corrosion, the layers are often protected by a special coating, so that there is no electrical connection between the layers. If there is a crack for example in the middle layer, no current will thus flow above or below the defect because of the insulating coating between the layers. There is only the possibility for the current to flow around the crack in the x-y... [Pg.259]

Polyimide. Polyimide is a biaxiaHy oriented high performance film that is tough, flexible, and temperature- and combustion-resistant. Its room temperature properties compare to poly(ethylene terephthalate), but it retains these good characteristics at temperatures above 400°C. Its electrical resistance is good and it is dimensionally stable. The principal detriment is fairly high moisture absorbance. The main uses are for electrical insulation, particularly where high temperatures are prevalent or ionizing radiation is a problem. The films may be coated to reduce water absorption and enhance... [Pg.377]

In other areas, POD has been used to improve the wear resistance of a mbber latex binder by incorporation of 25% of Oksalon fibers. Heat-resistant laminate films, made by coating a polyester film with POD, have been used as electrical insulators and show good resistance to abrasion and are capable of 126% elongation. In some instances, thin sheets of PODs have been used as mold release agents. For this appHcation a resin is placed between the two sheets of POD, which is then pressed in a mold, and the sheets simply peel off from the object and mold after the resin has cured. POD-based membranes exhibit salt rejection properties and hence find potential as reverse osmosis membranes in the purification of seawater. PODs have also been used in the manufacturing of electrophotographic plates as binders between the toner and plate. These improved binders produce sharper images than were possible before. [Pg.535]

Adding amines to coating compounds containing other polymers of hydantoin derivatives permits thermal curing of the coating compounds, which are useful as electrical insulators of wires under a broad range of conditions without loss of coating flexibiUty (101). [Pg.256]

Phosphazene polymers are inherently good electrical insulators unless side-group stmctures allow ionic conduction in the presence of salts. This insulating property forms the basis for appHcations as wire and cable jackets and coatings. Polyphosphazenes also exhibit excellent visible and uv radiation transparency when chromophoric substituents are absent. [Pg.257]
