Steel high strength

The recovery of vanadium from these slags is of commercial interest because of the depletion of easily accessible ores and the comparatively low concentrations (ranging from less than 100 ppm to 500 ppm) of vanadium in natural deposits (147,148). In the LILCO appHcations the total ash contained up to 36% 20 (147). Vanadium is of value in the manufacture of high strength steels and specialized titanium alloys used in the aerospace industry (148,149). Magnesium vanadates allow the recovery of vanadium as a significant by-product of fuel use by electric utiUties (see Recycling, nonferrous LffiTALS). [Pg.360]

Cathodic protection cannot work with prestressed concrete structures that have electrically insulated, coated pipes. There is positive experience in the case of a direct connection without coated pipes this is protection of buried prestressed concrete pipelines by zinc anodes [38], Stability against H-induced stress corrosion in high-strength steels with impressed current has to be tested (see Section 2.3.4). [Pg.428]

No one steel exceeds the tensile modulus of mild steel. Therefore, in applications in which rigidity is a limiting factor for design (e.g., for storage tanks and distillation columns), high-strength steels have no advantage over mild steel. Stress concentrations in mild steel structures are relieved by plastic flow and are not as critical in other, less-ductile steels. [Pg.62]

Select a fan from the tables at (1) required inlet cfm at inlet temperature and pressure, (2) at fan tables required operating rpm approved by manufacturers for fan size, correcting (reducing) for manufacturer s safe speed for temperature and materials of wheel construction. Generally, standard high-strength steel construction has a correction on speed of 1.0 up to 400°F and graduated down to 0.87 for 800°F, and only a 1.0 factor for aluminum at 70°F and 0.97 at 200°F. [Pg.546]

Avoid the use of high-strength steels. Relatively soft steels with low yield strength (up to Rc 22 and 90,000 psi) are resistant. [Pg.1308]
