Coating compounds

Adding amines to coating compounds containing other polymers of hydantoin derivatives permits thermal curing of the coating compounds, which are useful as electrical insulators of wires under a broad range of conditions without loss of coating flexibiUty (101). 

Bonding Agents. These materials are generally only used in wire cable coat compounds. They are basically organic complexes of cobalt and cobalt—boron. In wire coat compounds they are used at very low levels of active cobalt to aid in the copper sulfide complex formation that is the primary adherance stmcture. The copper sulfide stmcture builds up at the brass mbber interface through copper in the brass and sulfur from the compound. The dendrites of copper sulfide formed entrap the polymer chains before the compound is vulcanized thus hoi ding the mbber firmly to the wire.

The finished outer surfaces of the assemblies may be coated with a peelable coating compound which can be easily sprayed and air dried. For many years atactic polypropylene was an unwanted by-product but today it finds use in a number of markets and is specially made for these purposes rather than being a by-product. In Europe the main use has been in conjuction with bitumen as coating compounds for roofing materials, for sealing strips where it confers improved aging properties and in road construction where it improves the stability of asphalt surfaces. The carcass ply/plies coat compound functions are basically the same as the steel breaker compound. Normally in the steel belted PCT the ply is textile cord of polyester or rayon fabrics which are soft and flexible. The truck radial steel tire normally uses a steel cord ply. Earthmover tires are of two basic constructions, ie, radial using steel and bias using textiles (see Tire cords). 

Two methods could be used to prepare the disk samples. One is spin coating. Compound 96 and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were dissolved in cyclohexanone and the solution spun coated onto the disk substrate to prepare a photosensitive PMMA thin film on the disk doped with compound 96. The second method is direct evaporation of pure compound 96 to the disk under high vacuum conditions. The structure of the photochromic optical disk sample is shown in Figure 4.3.
