Any storage solution for C02 has to fulfil two first-order requirements. The storage has to retain the C02 for a sufficient duration outside the atmosphere and it has to have acceptably low ecologic impacts. Further requirements are sufficiently large storage potential and acceptable costs.

Germany and the EU would amount to roughly 10/55 Mt per year by 2030 and 70/350 Mt per year by 2050 accumulating globally to up to 1300 Mt per year by 2050. However, the total available C02 storage potential and its potential competition with the power sector must also be considered and could constrain such a scenario. 

A number of factors can alter the estimates of storage potential. These are areas of future work...

C is correct. Saturated fats have the greatest energy storage potential, about twice that of carbohydrates and proteins.

Notwithstanding the evident ability of commercial products to perform satisfactorily after extended storage, potentially adverse chemical reactions may proceed within the packaging materials. This is discussed in more detail in the following subsection.

The US Department of Energy has estimated that the storage capacity of depleted reservoirs in the USA is about 80—lOOGt CO2, which is sufficient to accommodate the waste gas from all the present power stations in the country for 50 years or more. The IPCC reports a storage capacity of 675 900 Gt CO2 for the whole world a massive storage potential that is sufficient to accept the present global annual production of the gas some 30 times over.
