Chains drive types

Where accurate and higher-speed chain drives are required, roller chains are used. Roller chains are fundamentally a development of the block chain in which rollers have been inserted. The addition of the rollers increases the overall efficiency of the chain and permits it, in its ordinary form, to be operated at high speeds a rate of 600-800 ft/min is usually recommended. The links can be furnished in a multitude of shapes, one common form being the offset shown in Fig. 3-28. This type of chain is furnished in pitches, i.e., center distance between rollers, from up to 2 in. and in breaking strengths, dependent upon the materials and the construction used, from about 10,000 to 200,00 lb [8,11]. [Pg.440]

Drive Types. Variable-speed drives may be selected on a chain-strength basis when operating with infrequent high chain loads such as from a torque convener, variable-speed motor, or multispeed transmission. [Pg.449]

Drilling Applications. Drilling equipment utilizes chain drives in various applications on the drilling rig itself and its auxiliary equipment. The drives for this type of equipment are called compound drives. Such drive equipment are subject to vary severe operational loads. There are two types of flexible intermediate drives used to transmit torsional power belt drives and chain drives. Flexible belts are used in industrial power transmission applications primarily when the speeds of the driver and driven shafts must be different or when the shafts must be widely separated. The trend toward higher speed primary drivers and the need to achieve a slower, useful driven speed are additional factors favoring the use of belts. In addition to V-belts, there are round belts and flat belts. Chain drives are typically used in applications where space is limited or obstructions prevent direct coupling of machine-train components. [Pg.970]

Properly designed chain drives can transmit almost unlimited power. As a result, this type of drive is suitable for low- to moderate-speed applications where the transmission of high force is needed. [Pg.984]

Two of these are the cycloaddition of the methyhdene with ethylene (path E, non-productive), reaction of the methylidene with an internal olefin such that the alkyl substituent on the metallacyclobutane is in the j9-position (path H, non-productive). The other two pathways are the cycloaddition of the alkylidene with an internal olefin to give the trisubstituted metallacyclobutane (path G, frans-metath-esis, non-productive) and the reaction of the alkylidene with a terminal olefin to give the a,a -disubstituted metallacyclobutane (path F), which can be looked at as a chain transfer-type event, albeit not in the sense of a chain polymerization. In this case, the alkylidene is shifted from the end of one chain to the end of another chain. So, assuming that all pathways have somewhat similar rates, the elimination of ethylene will drive the reaction to high polymer. In the case of ADMET, these additional mechanistic pathways do not prevent the polymerization reaction, since these additional pathways are either degenerate or represent processes that do not affect the overall molecular weight distribution of the polymer. [Pg.200]

Monorail type essentially consists of a chain running inside a track (straight or bent) made of cold rolled sections with pressed steel straddle plates welded on them. The track segments are connected together with bolts. Every conveyor has a drive unit of the chain (caterpillar type)... [Pg.848]

Type of drive can be an internal rotating shaft with three blades attached. The shaft extends outside and can have a driven pulley. It generally has a sprocket and chain drive, a gear box or a VFD motor. External girth gear drive can also be provided to the rotary screen if there are more than one concentric screens for separation of two-or three-sized particles. This will depend on length and diameter of each screen and may not always be possible. [Pg.90]

Casings are important considerations in providing adequate lubrication to prolong the efficiency and service life of a chain drive. Casings contain the lubricant, exclude foreign materials from the lubricant, and function as a safety guard. There are four basic types of casings used with chain drives. [Pg.598]

Chain drives can consist of one or multiple strand chains, depending on the load that the unit must transmit. The chains need to be the matched with the sprocket type, and they must be tight enough to prevent slippage. [Pg.120]

It is very important to properly lubricate a chain drive or conveyor. Chains usually operate in air. So if lubrication is poor or absent, the wear type not only changes from lubricated wear to dry wear, but the humidity and oxygen in the air causes the lubricated wear to change to corrosion wear. Then corrosion combines with wear to cause very rapid chain elongation. [Pg.49]

Lubrication and environmental considerations are not discussed here. Silent chain drives generally run at higher speeds than other types of chain drives. Oil bath or oil stream lubrication is usually specified in the power ratings. These types of lubrication require a casing, which shields the drive from most contaminants. [Pg.67]

Link-Suspended Basket Centrifuges In centrifuges with diameters larger than 762 mm (30 in), the basket, curb, curb cover, and drive form a rigid assembly flexibly suspended from three fixed posts (also known as a three-column centrifuge). The three suspension members may be either chain hnks or stiff rods in ball-and-socket joints and are spring-loaded. The suspended assembly has restrained freedom to oscillate to compensate for a normal out-of-balance condition. The drive is vertical with more efficient power transmission compared to the base-bearing type. [Pg.1735]

Whilst approximately twice the raw material cost of TPO- and S-B-S-type polymers, thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers find applications where abrasion resistance and toughness are particular requirements. Uses include gears, timing and drive belts, footwear (including ski boots) and tyre chains. Polyether-based materials have also achieved a number of significant medical applications. There is also some minor use as hot melt adhesives, particularly for the footwear industry. [Pg.879]

Drives such as pumps, fans, blowers, and many other types of machinery commonly employ silent chains as their prime source of power transmission. Because of their unique design, silent chains provide the most positive means of traction. Because of this, they often are used in important applications such as timing drives on critical equipment. [Pg.985]
