Standard roller chain strength and hfe is very dependent on the quality of materials and heat treatment of component parts and press fits. Standard roller chain utilizes press fits at the bushing-to-roUer link plate joints and the pin-to-pin fink plate joints.These press fits are what hold the chain together dnring operation. Proper press fits [generally 0.003 to 0.006 in (0.08-0.16 mm)] contribnte significantly to enhancement of fatigue life. 

Ratings are not shown in the horsepower tables for extremely low speeds. For operation at these speeds, select chain on a chain strength basis. The ratio of ultimate tensile strength to working load should be at least 6 1. 

Silent chain power capaeity is rated in units of power per unit of chain width. For any given pitch, increased chain width results in greater chain strength, increased power capacity, and increased cost. When several chain widths satisfy the specified requirements, narrower chain widths are generally more readily obtained and less costly. Wider chains will provide a more robust, shock-resistant drive.
