Causative agent

Patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) as antidepressant therapy have been especially subject to the hypertensive effects of vasoactive amines (52). These dietary amines have also been impHcated as causative agents ia migraine. Other aaturaHy occurring alkaloids (qv) have been recognized for centuries as possessing neurological stimulant and depressant properties. 

Treponema hjoepsenteriae a causative agent of swine dysentery, is sensitive to polyether antibiotics at low concentrations in vitro. In pigs, lasalocid was effective in controlling dysentery at levels of 0.005—0.05% in feeds (167). Several species of Mycoplasma are inhibited in vitro at a MIC range of 2.0—25 p./mL of polyethers including narasin, cartiomycin, and K41 (164). 

If a known adverse health effect can reasonably be anticipated under the circumstances of work - and could readily be observed - some form of heahh surveillance is appropriate. This may involve a doctor or trained nurse. It may include the checking of employees skin for dermatitis or asking questions relevant to any asthmatic condition where work is with recognized causative agents (e.g. epoxy resin curing agents). 

Whilst the causative agent(s) have not been established it is thought to be multifunctional and possibilities include physical factors (humidity, temperature, lighting), static electricity, electromagnetic radiation, air ion concentrations, fungi, noise, psychological stress, and chemicals. Chemicals which are not those involved in the normal work processes can become trapped within the building, albeit at concentrations below those known to cause ill-health effects, if ... 

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (SUBSTANCES/WASTES) A hazardous material is any substance that causes or may cause adverse affects on the health or safety of employees, the general public, or the environment any biological agent and other disease-causing agent, or a waste or combination of wastes. 

Viruses The causative agent of many infectious diseases. 

If OSHA, the National Toxicology Program (NTP), or tire International Agency for Research on Cancer (lARC) listed the compound as a carcinogen (cancer causing agent), it must be indicated as such on Uie MSDS. 

Compounds closely related to the sulfonamide antibiotics proved to be the first drugs effective against Mycobacterium leprae, the causative agent of the disease known since antiquity, leprosy. These drugs are at least partly responsible for the decline of I hose horror spots, the leper colonies. 

Diethylstilbestrol (DES) has estrogenic activity even though it is structurally unrelated to steroids. Once used as an additive in animal feed, DES has been implicated as a causative agent in several types of cancer. Show how DES can be drawn so that it is sterically similar to estradiol. 

There are a number of practical problems involved with using polysaccharides as vaccines as there are frequently too many different chemotypes for it to be practicable to prepare a vaccine. In some cases a limited number of serotypes are the dominant cause of infection and it may then be possible to produce vaccines. A major problem is the poor immune response elicited by polysaccharide antigens, which may in some cases be improved by chemical modification. This is (fie case for vaccines for Haemophilus influenzae type b (a causative agent of meningitis), where the antigenicity of the polysaccharide can be increased by coupling to proteins. 

Viruses are small infectious agents composed of a nucleic acid genome (DNA or RNA) encased by structural proteins and in some cases a lipid envelope. They are the causative agents of a number of human infectious diseases, the most important for public health today being acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), hepatitis, influenza, measles, and vituses causing diarrhoea (e.g., rotavirus). In addition, certain viruses contribute to the development of cancer. Antiviral drugs inhibit viral replication by specifically targeting viral enzymes or functions and are used to treat specific virus-associated diseases. 

The human immunodeficiency vims (HIV) is the causative agent of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV is a retrovirus, whose replication includes the transcription of the single-stranded RNA genome into double stranded DNA (reverse transcription) and the covalent insertion of the DNA... 

Neuropathic pain is initiated or caused by a primary lesion in the peripheral or central nervous system. The causative agent may be trauma, nerve-invading cancer, herpes zoster, HIV, stroke, diabetes, alcohol or other toxic substances. Neuropathic pain is refractory to most analgesic drugs. Altered sodium channel activity is characteristics of neuropathic pain states. 

These scenarios are borne out in practice, and where boiler waterside problems are identified, there almost always is more than one contributory factor. Investigation usually reveals a chain of cause and effect. Typically, any specific causative agent identified (such as oxygen) affects more than one part or component of the overall system. 

Sulfate ions have reactions similar to those of chloride. They are corrosion-causative agents (similar to oxygen and hydrogen) of the various types of concentration cell corrosion. In addition, they also are depassivation agents and may greatly accelerate the risk of stress corrosion mechanisms. Saline corrosion pits resulting from high concentrations of chloride and sulfate salts also may be associated with low pH corrosion because hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid can form within the pit, under deposits. 

This class of polysaccharide was well known in sugar refineries as the causative agent of ropiness it was formed from cane or beet sugar by bacteria of the Leuconostoc genus. Over many years, numerous papers were published, mainly with E. J. Bourne [Adv. Carbohydr. Chem. Biochem., 34 (1977) 1-22] and S. A. Barker as co-authors, describing the isolation, purification, properties, and structural features of dextrans. 

AIDS After considerable research, the causative agent for AIDS was identified as a virus, which was eventually named the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Case-Control Study—A t5q)e of epidemiological study which examines the relationship between a particular outcome (disease or condition) and a variety of potential causative agents (such as toxic chemicals). In a case-controlled study, a group of people with a specified and well-defined outcome is identified and compared to a similar group of people without outcome. 

We observed the activation of chitin-specific PO during infection with the causative agents of a number of diseases in wheat under the influence of Btpolaris soroktntana and the elicitors (Fig. 4), Septoria nodorum (Yusupova et al, 2006) and Tilletia caries (Khairullin et al., 2000) in potato infected by Phytophthora infestans (Maksimov et al., 2011), and in Aegilops umbellulata infected by Septoria nodorum (Maksimov et al, 2006).
