Caulking compound

Compressed gas systems were originally developed simply to provide a means of expelling a product from its container when the valve was depressed. SemisoHd products such as a cream, ointment, or caulking compound are dispensed as such. A Hquid concentrate and a compressed gas propellant (Fig. 3) produce a spray when a mechanical breakup actuator is used. Nitrogen, insoluble in most materials, is generally used as the propellant. [Pg.348]

Sepro Conta.iner, The Sepro container consists of a collapsible plastic bag fitted into a standard three-piece, tin-plated container such as a 202 X 214, 202 x 406, or 202 x 509 can. The product is placed within the bag, and the propellant is added through the bottom of the container, which is fitted with a one-way valve. There is no limitation on the viscosity of the product but compatibiUty with the plastic bag must be considered. A free-dowing hquid can be dispensed either as a stream or a fine spray, depending on the type of valve employed. A viscous material is often dispensed as a stream. This system has been used for caulking compounds, postfoaming gels, and depilatories. [Pg.351]

Fillers. Micronized carbonate whiting is the preferred mineral fill for putty and caulking compounds based on linseed oil or plastic, and vinyl-based floor coverings. It comprises 20—60% of the raw material mix (see Fillers). [Pg.177]

Miscellaneous. Talc is used in gypsumboatd joint compounds as a high end filler to promote smoothness, sandabiHty, and sag resistance. It is used in automotive primers and polyester body repair compounds to promote sandabiHty. It is used in a wide variety of caulking compounds to improve theology and sag resistance. [Pg.302]

A partially cross-linked, isobutylene—isoprene—divinylbenzene terpolymer containing some unreacted substituted vinylbenzene appendages is commercially available from Polysar Division, Bayer AG. Because of the residual reactive functionality, it can be cross-linked by peroxides that degrade conventional butyl mbbets. It is employed primarily in the manufacture of sealant tapes and caulking compounds (31). [Pg.481]

The homopolymer finds a variety of uses, as an adhesive component, as a base for chewing gum, in caulking compounds, as a tackifier for greases, in tank linings, as a motor oil additive to provide suitable viscosity characteristics and to improve the environmental stress-cracking resistance of polyethylene. It has been incorporated in quantities of up to 30% in high-density polyethylene to improve the impact strength of heavy duty sacks. [Pg.270]

These polymers are liquids which may usefully be cast or used for impregnation and caulking compounds. In addition they may be vulcanised by a variety of agents, ostensibly by a chain lengthening process. It should, however, be noted that these polymers normally contain small quantities of tri-chloropropane in the original monomer mix so that the three-dimensional chain extension will lead to cross-linking. [Pg.553]

Jointing compounds such as neoprene tape or fabric strip impregnated with chromate inhibitor or other inhibited caulking compounds should be applied carefully to ensure complete exclusion of water. [Pg.79]

The polymerization process is a low temperature catalytic reaction. The type of polymer produced is strongly affected by the reaction temperature. Low temperatures give low molecular weight polymers, the kind useful in caulking compounds and as a viscosity index improver for motor oils. [Pg.94]

Polyisoprene rubbers are used in the construction of passenger, truck, and bus tires and inner liners, as well as sealants and caulking compounds, sporting goods, gaskets, hoses, rubber sheeting, gloves, belts, and footwear. [Pg.163]

In addition to providing the properties of polyurethane chemistry, the authors reported that HNIPUs also exhibit the chemical resistance of epoxy binders. Potential uses of HNIPUs include commercial application in paints, varnishes, adhesives, caulking compounds, flooring/industrial coatings, foams, and composite materials. [Pg.127]

Among the butylenes, isobutylene has become one of the important starting materials for the manufacture of polymers and chemicals. There are many patents that describe the use of isobutylene or its derivatives to produce insecticides, antioxidants, elastomers, additives for lubricating oils, adhesives, sealants, and caulking compounds. Table 9 shows the use pattern of butylenes in the United States. [Pg.370]

PCBs Polychlorinated biphenyls are a group of toxic chemicals used for a variety of purposes and found in a number of products, such as carbonless copy paper, adhesives, hydraulic fluids, and caulking compounds. They were originally used to insulate electrical equipment, and although they ve been banned in the United States since the late seventies, they are still found in water. They accumulate in the sediment at the bottoms of rivers and lakes, and build up in the fatty tissues offish. The primary effect of PCBs is on the endocrine system, which is responsible for regulating the hormones in our bodies. They are particularly dangerous to fetuses and young children. If PCBs get into your bloodstream, they can upset the body s natural hormone levels and can lead to birth defects and cancers. [Pg.36]

Talc is also often used as an extender in epoxy adhesives and sealants, but it also has flow control properties. Talc is used in higher-solids, high-viscosity applications such as caulking compounds, automotive putties, mastics, and sealants. Talc is a hydrophobic and organophilic material. [Pg.168]
