Mr. Nolan has received numerous of safety awards and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He is the author of the book "Application of HAZOP and What-If Safety Reviews to the Petroleum, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries," which is widely referred to within the petroleum and chemical industries. Mr. Nolan has also been listed in "Who s Who in California" for the last ten years and has been elected to appear in the 1996 International Edition of "Who s Who of Science and Engineering."... 

Dendrimers with terminal functional groups represent mode compact precursors that are spherical and almost monodisperse, with reactive groups placed on their periphery. Their synthesis, structure and properties have been reviewed in monographs and review articles often together with hyperbranched polymers (cf., e.g. [15-20]), as well as in this book. Application of dendrimers as precursors for conventional materials is limited at this time by their relatively high cost.

New Spreadsheet Calculations. Throughout the book we have introduced spreadsheets for problem solving, graphical analysis, and many other applications. Microsoft Excel has been adopted as the standard for these calculations, but the instructions could be readily adapted to other programs. Several chapters have tutorial discussions of how to enter values, formulas, and built-in functions. Many other examples worked in detail are presented in our companion book. New Spreadsheet Summaries. References to our companion book Applications of Microsoft Excel in Analytical Chemistry are given as Spreadsheet Summaries in the text. These are intended to direct the user to examples, tutorials and elaborations of the text topics. 

Freezing. The literature on the freezing preservation of foods is also widely scattered. Much of it is in journals devoted to special food fields or to refrigeration. Among the important texts are Tressler and Evers, Freezing Preservation of Foods and Refrigerating Data Book—Applications Volume. Food Industries has published a large number of articles on this topic and has made several surveys of the field.

Spreadsheet applications have been included throughout lo illustrate how these powerful programs can be applied to instrumental methods. Problems accompanied by this icon encourage the use of spreadsheets. The book presents a well-defined procedure for adding or subtracting independent variables to the model variable and covers how to apply statistical forecasting methods to the serially correlated data characteristically found in clinical and pharmaceutical settings. This monograph Is a critical compilation of thermochemical data for the title field published since 1930. The enthalpies of formation at 298.15 K of some 3000 substances are listed, with estimates of error. Where enthalpies of vaporization are known or can be reliably estimated these are listed and In these cases the enthalpies of formation of both gaseous and condensed phases are given. Extensive Introductory material presents experimental procedures for reduction of experimental data of the type found In the book. Applications of thermochemical data are given, and there Is a section on methods of estimating enthalpies of formation of organic compounds. Also see items [29] and [116]. 

Engineering and Safety Management Yellow Book. Application Note 3. Human Error Causes, Consequences and Mitigations. Issue 1.0. 

This book comprises a collection of papers presented in the symposium as well as several invited review papers. This volume is organized into three sections Properties (Chapters 2-11) Device Applications (Chapters 11-19), and Synthesis and Fabrication (Chapters 20-27). This is in accordance the subtitle of the book, Applications, Properties, and Synthesis, because they are three key, inseparable elements in today s materials research. 

The Unit Operations Laboratory at IIT was started in the early 1910s. The Unit Operations outlook was developed by Professor McCormack in the form of senior projects. The laboratory instruction book contributed many of the experiments in the book "Applications of Chemical Engineering," edited by Professor McCormack. Students worked in teams of two or three on projects proposed by instructors or proposed their own experiments. Usually the project involved the building of an equipment item. These equipment items and the experiments were updated from year to year. The laboratory portion of the curriculum required the completion of twenty-four of these home-grown and continuously modified experiments over a span of three semesters. The result was a chemical engineering graduate who could devise a practical way to evaluate the results of industrial processes and to determine the best way to develop these processes.
