Ideally, the K value for the light key component in the phase separation should be greater than 10, and at the same time, the K value for the heavy key should be less than 0.1. Having such circumstances leads to a good separation in a single stage. However, use of phase separators might still be effective in the flowsheet if the K values for the key components are not so extreme. Under such circumstances a more crude separation must be accepted. 

By contrast, if the reactor is continuous well-mixed, then the reactor is isothermal. This behavior is typical of stirred tanks used for liquid-phase reactions or fluidized-bed reactors used for gas-phase reactions. The mixing causes the temperature in the reactor to be effectively uniform. 

Dehumidification may be effected by cooling. Where small quantities of dry air are required dehumidification can be carried out using chemical absorbents, e.g. calcium chloride, phosphorus pentoxide, sulphuric acid, etc.

The reaction mechanism for these products is not clearly understood, but the introduction of organo-metallic compounds (barium or iron salts in colloidal suspension) has been shown to have a beneficiai action on the combustion of diesel fuel in engines and reduce smoke. However, these products cause deposits to form because they are used in relatively large proportions (on the order 0.6 to 0.8 weight %) to be effective.

Any set of characteristics can be used to describe the compared objects. Object characteristics can be roughly classified as global and local, with the latter providing sufficient local information for object alignment/superposition to be effected.
