The catalytic conversion of heavy hydrocarbons, such as heavy oil or sulphurous organic residues, from the oil industry via steam reforming is not feasible because solid carbon starts to be deposited at temperatures above 800 °C, which renders the catalyst inactive in a short period of time and, furthermore, blocks the gas flow in the reactor. Heavy hydrocarbons are, therefore, converted to hydrogen using partial oxidation (POX). Note that in refineries the term gasification is more commonly used partial oxidation is the scientific terminology. [Pg.294]

Many other sulphur-organic reagents have found use in the determination of Ru, e.g., rubeanic acid [44] and unithiol [45]. 2-Thiobarbituric acid has been used in a method based on derivative spectrophotometry [46]. Dithizone (at 85 C) forms with Ru a complex extractable into CHCI3 [47]. [Pg.368]

Dithizone has been utilized not only for the separation of thallium but also for its determination [16,42], The molar absorptivity of TlHDz in CHCI3 is 3.710 at max 505 nm. Interfering species include Pb, Bi, and Sn(II). Other sulphur-organic reagents proposed for determining T1 include thiodibenzoylmethane [43] and thio-HTTA [44],... [Pg.422]

Sulphur organic compounds are very sensitive to pH (Fig. 66). As the acidic form absorbs differently from the basic one, it is possible to calculate the pKa value of these compounds. The example of thiophenol is given, and the estimated pKa value is close to 6.2 (Fig. 66). [Pg.82]
