Assessment specialists

Monitoring activities have usually been carried out to help clarify the risks, if any, associated with specific sites. While every data point that could be obtained may be of some interest, the challenge is to maximize the usefulness for risk assessment of monitoring data that are collected and analyzed within cost and time constraints. Unfortunately, health assessment specialists have provided little guidance to date as to the type of monitoring information that would be most useful to them in determining risks to individuals or to larger populations. [Pg.76]

For some companies, the problem may not be assessment, but the next, and most difficult step implementation. Some plants are dragging their feet, due to budgetary and political issues, Sem says. An average sized chemical plant can easily spend from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars for site security - then, some plants have fence lines over a mile long, he adds. Right now, many companies know they should do more but can t see the forest for the trees. Generally, the most critical business processes should determine how to prioritize the intensity and focus of security efforts, says Troy Smith, senior vice president and practice leader for IT Security with the risk-assessment specialists, Marsh Inc. (New York City). [Pg.70]

Purpose The exams are designed to test the knowledge and competencies of prospective chemistry teachers. Test questions were developed using textbooks, California curriculum syllabi, teacher education curricula, and teacher credentialing standards. The questions were developed in consultation with and approved by committees of educators, teacher educators, and other content and assessment specialists. The exam question bank is undergoing constant revision. [Pg.258]

With more than two branches, that is, if the given parameter consists of three options (e.g. probability of undesirable event occurrence P is defined by values P, P2, and P3), the graph becomes more complicated and difficult to read. That is why, under these circumstances, a combination of a risk graph and a risk matrix is utilized (combined method). This procedure takes into account more possible parameters of hazard effects however, the division into individual groups depends on the subjective evaluation by company s risk assessment specialist. [Pg.83]

The National system of accreditation gives much attention to the training and qualification of NDT personnel. Significant subjective component, such as training and qualification of personnel, is present in NDT implementation and assessment of its results, thus all specialists carrying out NDT must be certified in compliance with CTBEH 473. [Pg.958]

The what if/checklist is a broadly based hazard assessment technique that combines the creative thinking of a selected team of specialists with the methodical focus of a prepared checklist. The result is a comprehensive hazard analysis that is useful in training operating personnel on the hazards of the particular operation. [Pg.50]

During this assessment phase, deliberately look for programs and elements. The most likely sources are Operating Manuals/Procedures, PSM, and ESH Manuals, and PSM and ESH specialists. In each case, your assessment team should seek out descriptions of the objectives of each... [Pg.56]

The Competent Person should have sufficient practical and theoretical knowledge and actual experience of the types of plant he is charged with examining and testing as will enable him to detect faults and weaknesses. He should have the maturity to seek such specialist advice and assistance as will be required to enable him to make the necessary judgements. He should also be able to assess the importance of any faults or weaknesses in relation to the strength and function of the plant before he is required to certify it as suitable to carry out its specified duty. The Competent Person should have access to the equipment, specialist s... [Pg.142]

Clearly, the assessment of dust clouds and concentrations cannot be left to the casual practitioner, and this has now become the specialist field of the industrial hygienist. [Pg.764]

Most examples of economic assessments in the corrosion literature are comparisons of similar artefacts in different materials, or of different protective schemes on the same artefact. The assessments in which a corrosion specialist is directly involved are usually of this type. The items concerned are well defined so that reliable costs can be sought, e.g. by quotations. [Pg.10]

Many suppliers now offer water treatment for use in refrigeration condenser circuits, and the merits of different methods need to be assessed before making a choice. The reader is referred to specialist works on the subject [10, 19, 21]. [Pg.74]

Responsibility for the review and assessment of pre-marketing submissions for new drugs and devices is divided between four specialist centres. [Pg.34]

A further factor concerns the milieu in which the anxiety disorders are encountered. These are essentially detected, diagnosed and treated by primary-care practitioners. In the UK, for instance, less than 10% of such cases are referred to specialists, although the figure tends to be higher in the USA and continental Europe. General practitioners often make syndromal or even symptomatic assessments rather than diagnosing disorders, so it may be difficult to extrapolate across countries. [Pg.59]

Inherent safety concept. This route requires the deepest understanding of the chemical process, and, accordingly, of the potential hazards. It is not easy, even at a high degree of understanding, to eliminate mistakes in assessment. However, this approach is strongly supported by many specialists in problems of safety in the chemical industry. According to Kletz(1983) ... [Pg.379]

Specificity is unsurpassed. Traditionally, MS was performed on very large and expensive high-resolution sector instruments operated by experienced specialists. The introduction of low-resolution (1 amu), low-cost, bench-top mass spectrometers in the early 1980s provided analysts with a robust analytical tool with a more universal range of application. Two types of bench-top mass spectrometers have predominated the quadrupole or mass-selective detector (MSD) and the ion-trap detector (ITD). These instruments do not have to be operated by specialists and can be utilized routinely by residue analysts after limited training. The MSD is normally operated in the SIM mode to increase detection sensitivity, whereas the ITD is more suited to operate in the full-scan mode, as little or no increase in sensitivity is gained by using SIM. Both MSDs and ITDs are widely used in many laboratories for pesticide residue analyses, and the preferred choice of instrument can only be made after assessment of the performance for a particular application. [Pg.740]

Assessment and management by appropriate psychiatric specialists is important for special populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, pregnancy, and others. [Pg.601]

The project will progress in stages, beginning with a waste audit carried out by an audit team. The audit team consists of a waste audit expert, a sector specialist, a financial expert, an economist/ marketing expert, and an expert in product life-cycle assessments. The audit team also supports the project in its different stages. [Pg.7]

Richard C. Honeycutt, Ph.D., was born in Newport News, VA, in 1945. He attended Anderson University in Anderson, IN, from 1963 to 1967 and earned an A.B. in Chemistry. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Purdue University in 1971 and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 1971 to 1973 at the Smithsonian Institution s Radiation Biology Laboratory. Dr. Honeycutt worked as a Senior Chemist at Rohm and Haas Company from 1973 to 1976 and as a Senior Metabolism Chemist at Ciba Geigy from 1976 to 1989. Currently, he is President of the Hazard Evaluation and Regulatory Affairs Company, Inc., which he founded in 1990, and is an analytical biochemist and field research specialist/consultant engaged in exposure assessment of pesticides to humans and the environment. [Pg.185]

Not only does the limited diversity of the compound database curtail the choice of lead, the process for assessing screening hits to see if they define a tractable lead is also limited by resources, particularly in those specialist assays that would predict the ability of the chosen lead class to successfully yield an approval in a particular therapeutic field. The process is therefore driven mainly by consideration of activity against the target. Therefore chemotypes with adequate but less than maximal potency for the target but freedom from damaging side activity remain undetected in this process. [Pg.43]
