One of the applications for hydrogen is for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells. As mentioned earlier, one application is a hydrogen fuelled hybrid fuel cell / ultra-capacitor transit bus program where significant energy efficiencies can be demonstrated. Another commercial application is for fuel cell powered forklifts and other such fleet applications that requires mobile electrical power with the additional environmental benefits this system provides. Niche applications could also play a strategic role in developing hydrogen infrastructures and energy systems. Such end-use applications include forklifts and off-road vehicles. 

Abrasive wear is a two-bodied wear that is found in a large number of applications where polyurethane is moving over a second object without lubrication. Wheels used on forklifts, trolleys, or any other situation under load are typical examples of abrasive wear. 

Polyurethane wheels may be small components in a piece of machinery or a large part of drive wheels on items such as forklifts or rod mills. Speed is the normal limiting factor in the use of polyurethane wheels. This is a result of heat buildup. Special polyurethanes find an application as spare motor car wheels. 

Fenitrothion is a broad-spectrum insecticide effective against a number of insects. It has been widely used in Australia for locust control. In January 2002, nine workers were hospitalized in Melbourne, Australia, as the result of exposure to fenitrothion.8 The incident occured when a forklift ran over and punctured three cans of the insecticide. Symptoms reported included irritated skin, stinging eyes, and nausea. According to an official at the scene, fenitrothion works its way into the eyes, armpits, and up the nose. Because of the applications for which it is used, residential and dietary exposures to fenitrothion are considered to be negligible in the U.S. 

Today, a storage battery that is mainly used for propulsion of a vehicle and is recharged from an external energy source is referred to as a traction battery . Typical applications are forklift trucks, automatically guided vehicles (AGVs) in modern production and logistics, and on-road electric vehicles (EVs).
