Several variations of the chemical method are in use. In the one described below, a freshly prepared Fehling s solution is standardised by titrating it directly against a standard solution of pure anhydrous glucose when the end-point is reached, I. e., when the cupric salt in the Fehling s solution is completely reduced to cuprous oxide, the supernatant solution becomes completely decolorised. Some difficulty is often experienced at first in determining the end-point of the reaction, but with practice accurate results can be obtained. The titrations should be performed in daylight whenever possible, unless a Special indicator is used (see under Methylene-blue, p. 463). [Pg.460]

Gold thiosulfate complexes of the form Na2[Au(S202)2] 2H20 [19153-98-1] are prepared by addition of gold trichloride to concentrated sodium thiosulfate solution (89). The gold is completely reduced and some thiosulfate is oxidized to tetrathionate. This complex has been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. [Pg.32]

The catalyst is prepared by suspending 5 kg of catalyst grade charcoal in 200 liters of water, in a pressure vessei, and adding thereto 25 liters of 4% (as Pd metal) aqueous palladous chloride. It is extremely important that the interaction of quinones with XO (Reaction (3)) is reversible that can lead to receiving erroneous results at the measurement of superoxide production by SOD-inhibitable cytochrome c reduction [28,29] (see also Chapter 27).
