CGA P-1, 3.5 29CFR1926.350(a)(4) 4.2.1.7 A suitable hand truck, forklift, cylinder pallet system, or similar material-handling device shall be used with the container properly secured to tiie device. When powered vehicles transport cylinders, they shall be secured in a vertical position.

Also, CGA Pamphlet P-1, which has been adopted by reference, states (Section 3.5, Safe Handling of Cylinders ) that A suitable hand truck, forklift truck, or similar material handling device should be used with the container properly secured to the device. Both OSHA and CGA discuss securing cylinders during transport, but neither specifically requires a chain. A chain would be effective at securing cylinders, as would any comparable method that would secure the cylinder to the truck.

The warehousing function must determine the number of distribution centers (DC) to own and their location. The optimal location of the DCs would clearly be a function of the locations of customers, sources of material, and the locations of manufacturing plants. To be responsive to customers, the DCs must store a mix of products that would vary by location, and therefore the product-mix must be chosen carefully. Material handling equipment enable efficient stacking and retrieval of items in a warehouse. They include trucks, forklifts, side loaders, platform trucks, conveyor systems, automatic guided vehicles (AGV), and robotic delivery systems. 

For workers who are tasked to operate equipment, whether that equipment is heavy equipment on a construction site or presses or equipment used in a manufacturing process, the worker needs to perform a prework inspection of this equipment. For workers who are asked to operate mobile equipment such as trucks, forklifts. Bobcats, skidloaders, and the like, a written pretrip inspection must take place. Although there are a variety of ways to document this pretrip inspection, I recommend that the inspection be recorded on a prenumbered pad containing pressure-sensitive carbons with at least the original and one copy. 

Powered industrial trucks (forklifts) are common in many large water utility plants. 

Most lift trucks have four wheels however, the stability of the lift truck is controlled by the two front wheels and the center of the rear axle. The front wheels carry the load the rear wheels are for steering. The center of gravity is one of the major problems with forklifts. Speeds as low as 5 mph can tip a lift truck. Forklifts have a narrow wheel base, which contributes to tipover.
