Alcohol ethoxy late

More recent publications on sulfosuccinates have confirmed the minimal or close to zero skin and eye irritation caused by these products. In a general screening of product safety evaluation methods the authors [16] rejected the sulfosuccinate from further consideration in the statistical analysis of experimental data (variance analysis) because the product had not shown any irritation in the Duhring-Chamber test. The sulfosuccinate (based on fatty alcohol ethoxy late) was tested in a screening with 14 other surfactants, namely, alkyl sulfates, sulfonates, ether sulfates, and a protein fatty acid condensation product.

SEC-RI/UV has also been used to analyse some 26 thioorganotin compounds, organotin carboxylates and chlorides, essentially PVC stabilisers, and some of their main by-products and related compounds (thioesters and dithioesters, n-alkanes) [803]. Not all organotin chlorides were stable in the adopted analysis conditions. N, Ai -ethylene-bis-stearamide and -oleamide in common plastics (ABS, SAN, PUR, LDPE, PA6.6) can be analysed by SEC after derivatisation with trifluo-roacetic anhydride. SEC analysis of fatty alcohol ethoxy-lates (FAE), used as nonionic surfactants, has also been described [759].

Alcohol ether sulfates (R0(CH2CH20)S03"Na-") - alcohol ethoxy-late reacted with sulfur trioxide and then neutralized in NaOH. Application s include dishwashing liquids and shampoos, home laundry powders, and personal care products. 

Initial Batch Reactor Studies. An agitated 2000 ml thick-walled glass reactor was blanketed with nitrogen and operated at 50°C. Vinyl acetate containing about 15 ppm hydroquinone was used without purification. The ionic emulsifier was Sipex EST-30, advertised as a sodium tridecyl ether sulfate, and the nonionic surfactant was Siponic L-25, a lauryl alcohol ethoxy-late. Table I shows the recipes and properties of the three seed latexes produced in the batch reactor. Essentially complete conversions were obtained in 30 to 45 minutes, but with a temperature rise of almost 50°C.

The sensitivity of fluorescence has made it invaluable in techniques in which specific chemicals, e.g. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohol ethoxy-lates, are linked to a fluorescent dye for detection in high-performance liquid chromatography (p. 218).

It is generally known that aqueous solutions of true amphoterics can be difficult to thicken. Viscosity control is best achieved by using either the amphoteric salts or by combining with anionic surfactants. The traditional thickening aids, the alkanolamides, are not particularly effective with amphoterics. Nonionic surfactants offer the best thickening support for amphoteric surfactants, especially those based on fatty acids or alcohols ethoxy-lated with 50-200 moles of ethylene oxide, but like all nonionics, they could exert a foam depressing effect if used at a higher level. When amphoteric surfactants are combined with anionic surfactants, the traditional alkanolamides are effective. The final pH adjustment can also make a difference to the viscosity of the product.

Surfactant alcohol ethoxylates and their derivatives are used by the detergent manufacturing industry as active ingredients in industrial and consumer products such as soaps, detergents, and other cleaning products. 

Moisture in the air gives rise to the formation of sulphuric acid and oleum, leading to corrosion throughout the plant and causing inferior product qu ity, in terms of colour and other undesired by-products (e.g. dioxane in alcohol ethoxy late sulphates) if condensed oleum reaches the reactor. 

Final pH control takes place in the second compact reactor, promoting a quick system response. The first loop reactor also has pH measurement, which in certain circumstances can be used for control, for example when it is required to introduce all the acid in the first loop (alcohol ethoxy lates). 

This is produced by using nonionic surfactants or polymers, e.g. alcohol ethoxy-lates, or A-B-A block copolymers PEO-PPO-PEO (Eigure 6.9). 

The nonionic class of alkyl polyglycosides differs from fatty-alcohol ethoxy-lates by its characteristic structure which considerably affects the association of molecules in solution, the phase behavior, and the interfacial activity. The hydrophilic head of the glucose ring, associated with the surrounding water molecules by hydrogen bonds, is rather voluminous as compared to the alkyl chain. However, the hydration is low compared to fatty alcohol ethoxylates. Therefore, basic phenomena like cloud point, thermal phase inversion, or gel formation in medium concentrations of pure solutions cannot be observed in case of the alkyl polyglycosides. 

Raney and Miller [11] related the detergency performance of alcohol ethoxy-late systems to their phase behavior. Raney [12] then extended that work to demonstrate the importance of the phase inversion temperature (PIT) in optimizing a blend of nonionic and anionic surfactants for oily soil removal. A similar study was undertaken to optimize a blend of commercial grade nonionic surfactant, Cj2/j3 3-EO alcohol ethoxylate, and Cj alkyidiphenyl oxide disulfonate for the removal of cetane.

Using a 500-MHz instalment (125.8 MHz for C), Heatley and coworkers demonstrated that it was possible to directly determine the concentration of the first three oligomers of a C14 alcohol ethoxy late, with the higher oligomers indistinguishable. The NMR spectrum also contains detailed information on the various branched alkyl moieties (26).
