Structure and characteristics

Preparation research of SWCNT was also put forth by lijima and his co-worker [3]. The structure of SWCNT consists of an enrolled graphene to form a tube without seam. The length and diameter depend on the kinds of the metal catalyst used in the synthesis. The maximum length is several jim and the diameter varies from 1 to 3 nm. The thinnest diameter is about the same as that of Cgo (i.e., ca. 0.7 nm). The structure and characteristics of SWCNT are apparently different from those of MWCNT and rather near to fullerenes. Hence novel physical properties of SWCNT as the one-dimensional material between molecule and bulk are expected. On the other hand, the physical property of MWCNT is almost similar to that of graphite used as bulk [6c]. [Pg.8]

The surface structure and characteristics (density and acidity) of the hydroxyl groups presented in Fig. 13.21 (using CrystalMaker 2.1.1 software) give very useful information to understand the reactivity of the surface of the particles, particularly when adsorption of another complex is desired to synthesize a bimetallic catalyst, or to control the interaction with an oxide carrier (the deposition step). The isoelectric point calculated with the model (5.9) is in fair agreement with the experimental value (4.3). [Pg.270]

The Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a usually harmless symbiont in the intestine of mammals. The structure and characteristics of this organism have been particularly well characterized. E. coli is also frequently used in genetic engineering (see p. 258). [Pg.202]

Because chemistry is such a broad field, it is difficult to give a concise job description of a chemist. In general, chemists study the composition, structure, and characteristics of matter in an attempt to improve substances and products discover new substances and products and improve and develop chemical processes. Chemists work in a multitude of industries including agriculture, medicine, pharmaceuticals, textiles, petrochemicals, mining, plastics, hazardous materials, electronics, adhesives, paints, household products, and cosmetics. [Pg.327]

To appreciate the model discussed in this chapter it is essential to have some knowledge of the characteristics of various organized media. A large number of monographs are available on this topic [73-91] and readers should consult them for detailed understanding. For the sake of completeness, we provide below a very brief summary of the structures and characteristics of the relevant media. [Pg.70]

Transmission Line Structures and Characteristics. When interconnections exceed the critical line length, transmission lines with proper terminations are used to effectively couple the signal into the line, to minimize reflections along the line and from its ends, and to minimize crosstalk with adjacent lines. Transmission line structures provide a controlled environment... [Pg.463]

Due to the great potential applications and the widespread interests of OFETs, several review articles with emphasis on different aspects of OFETs have been published [8-13], However, despite the extensive studies and increasing research interests in phthalocyanine as well as porphyrin semiconductors, there is still no review article that systematically generalizes the research achievements in the field of tetrapyrrole organic semiconductors for OFETs. Thus, the present contribution should interest scientists in both industrial and theoretical fields. The main contents of this chapter is as follows Firstly, some basic introduction of the structure and characteristics of OFET is provided then theoretical factors that influence the performance of OFET devices is discussed finally, the progress in phthalocyanine-based OFETs in the order of p-type, n-type, and ambipolar semiconductors is summarized. [Pg.278]

Nanowire systems have attracted a great deal of attention recently due to their technological potential They are of fundamental interest because they exhibit unique quantum confinement effects. In this article, advances in the fabrication of nanowires via template-assisted and laser-assisted approaches are reviewed. The structure and characteristics of different nanowire systems are discussed. To understand and predict the unusual properties of nanowires, we have developed a generalized theoretical model for the band structure of these onedimensional systems. A unique semimetal-semiconductor transition that occurs in bismuth nanowires is described. Transport measurements on bismuth and antimony nanowires illustrate that these novel materials are very different from their bulk counterparts. A transport... [Pg.167]

This chapter deals with several organized media, each with its own characteristics. To appreciate the effect of organized and constraining media on photoreactions, it is essential to have some knowledge of their physical characteristics [71-73,78-88], For a detailed understanding of the structures and characteristics of various media one should consult the large number of monographs and reviews available on this topic. [Pg.554]
