Additions, Application

For the repetitive inspections the required hydrotest can only be performed for a limited number of the small cylinders, and even then the drums have to be removed from the line and the cylinders will be supported in defined distances for the weight of the water and the pressurisation. For the new and long cylinders even this is impossible, because they loose due to the additional weight of the water and the over-pressurisation their roundness and balances. Therefore the law in the most countries within and outside of the EU accept as a replacement of the hydrotest an additional application of different NDT methods, which were often done by an ultrasonic measurement of the wall thickness of the cylindrical part and a MT of the flat covers. [Pg.30]

The advantages of this approach for part 3 of the standard lie in the fact that no specifications on geometrical magnifications need to be made since these parameters implicitly result from the demanded IQI detectability. Furthermore, the standard is open to additional applications. All that is needed is to the definition of the respective equipment class and a specification on the respective IQI sensitivities. [Pg.441]

In this section, a number of applications for NRA are presented. As this is not a review article, the following is only a sampling of the possible uses of this powerful technique. The reader interested in information on additional applications is directed to the proceedings of the Ion Beam Analysis Conferences and those from the International Conferences on the Application of Accelerators in Research and Industry, among other sources. [Pg.690]

Additional applications are exemplified by the well-known Meystre-Miescher degradation of the bile acid side chain and, more recently, in the preparation of a-pyrones from a,iS-unsaturated lactones. ... [Pg.333]

Additional applications of the transfer matrix method to adsorption and desorption kinetics deal with other molecules on low index metal surfaces [40-46], multilayers [47-49], multi-site stepped surfaces [50], and co-adsorbates [51-55]. A similar approach has been used to study electrochemical systems. [Pg.462]

In addition, application of the first and second laws (equations 20.128 and 20.138) gives... [Pg.1231]

Table I provides an overview of general reactor designs used with PS and HIPS processes on the basis of reactor function. The polymer concentrations characterizing the mass polymerizations are approximate there could be some overlapping of agitator types with solids level beyond that shown in the tcd>le. Polymer concentration limits on HIPS will be lower because of increased viscosity. There are also additional applications. Tubular reactors, for example, in effect, often exist as the transfer lines between reactors and in external circulating loops associated with continuous reactors. The potential of eq. (1) in the elucidation of transition-state structure is discussed briefly. Also, a number of additional applications of the method which require further study of the preliminary conclusions or suggestions are pointed out. [Pg.78]

The use of protoplasts in studies of stress physiology and biochemistry expands the advantages of cell culture systems discussed in the preceding sections. Additional applications are related to the fusion of protoplasts. Intraspecifie and interspecific protoplast fusion greatly enhance genetic variability of the fused protoplasts (Kumar Cocking, 1987). The resulting somatic hybrids provide cells which can be used for selection of specific traits (e.g. environmental stress tolerance) provided by one or both donor cells and for basic studies on cytoplasmic and nuclear inheritance of desired characteristics. [Pg.190]

To conclude this section on systems with multiple objectives, we will consider a specific plasma etching unit case study. This unit will be analyzed considering both categorical and continuous performance measurement variables. Provided that similar preference structures are expressed in both instances, we will see that the two approaches lead to similar final answers. Additional applications of the learning methodologies to multiobjective systems can be found in Saraiva and Stephanopoulos (1992b, c). [Pg.134]

The process of X p validation and refinement starts with a final detailed analysis of its realization, through the computation of (yj. XDp) and o (y Xup), k = 0,l,...,K, estimates. If for some reason one or more infimal decision units judge the implementation of X p to be unacceptable, an additional attempt is made to refine the decision policy and find a revised version of it, X p, that is accepted and validated by all infimal decision units, through additional applications of basic to the decision units in conflict with the initial X p version (see Saraiva, 1993 Saraiva and Stephanopoulos, 1992d, for details). [Pg.146]

The present photoelectrochemical deposition/dissolution method is applicable to reversible control of the particle size. A typical application taking advantage of the method is the multicolor photochromism. Additional applications include surface patterning and photoelectrochemical actuator. The patterning is possible by using a thiol-modified silver... [Pg.265]

An additional application of SYNEOS to simulate the magnetic hyperfine pattern in time spectra is provided by the low-spin ferri-heme (Ee, S = 1/2) complex... [Pg.500]

The structure of the second edition follows that of the first edition, with novel applications contained in sections attached to the individual chapters. The present chapter covers mass spectroscopy, with additional applications being found in the individual chapters, as well as advances in common detectors, unusual modes of chromatography, and general theoretical advances. [Pg.58]

On the whole, GPEC remains a technique in search for polymer/additive applications with real added value [835]. Practical applications of GPEC may be found in the analysis of polymer blends [836], laminates and packaging materials. For example, the technique can be used for determination of the impact modifier content in PS packaging material, which contains a soluble transparent rubber for transparent applications,... [Pg.269]

The low concentrations of ozone normally present in the atmosphere are sufficient to cause severe oxidation and cracking in polyolefins (2-13) and many other polymers such as polystyrene (6,11,12,14.15). poly(vinyl chloride) ( y, J 2,J 6) and rubbers (11,12,17-20). Where the ozone concentration is increased by air pollution, higher altitudes or the present of electrical machinery, the rate of degradation considerably increases. The prevention of such degradation represents a matter of considerable economic interest since it can greatly improve service life of polymers and plastics. An additional application of this research is to apprise the suitability of polymers for upper atmosphere application (Space Shutle flights) where a plentitude of ozone and atomic oxygen prevails. [Pg.187]

Because of its excellent range of properties and reliability, poly(fluoroalkoxyphosphazene) elastomers are used as seals, gaskets, and shock mounts in demanding military, aerospace, petroleum and industrial applications. In addition, applications under development for this elastomer include fuel hoses for artlc use, coated fabrics for protective clothing, sealants, coatings and medical devices. [Pg.279]

On the other hand, if the hole flow in DNA could be artificially controlled to deposit at the desired site in DNA, it may enable site-selective oxidation and strand scission of DNA, which is desirable from a therapeutical standpoint. Furthermore, understanding DNA-mediated hole transfer is expected to lead to an additional application in the development of biosensors and bioelectronic devices [9]. Therefore, the regulation of the transfer rate and direction of the hole generated in DNA is of interest from the perspective of using DNA as a building block for electronic devices. [Pg.128]

The possibility to resolve the two enantiomers of 27a (or 26) by crystalline complexa-tion with optically active 26 (or 27a) is mainly due to differences in topological complementarity between the H-bonded chains of host and guest molecules. In this respect, the spatial relationships which affect optical resolution in the above described coordination-assisted clathrates are similar to those characterizing some optically resolved molecular complexes S4). This should encourage additional applications of the lattice inclusion phenomena to problems of chiral recognition. [Pg.50]
