Research effort at Albany International Research Co. has developed unit processes necessary for pilot scale production of several species of reverse osmosis hollow fiber composite membranes. These processes include spin-dope preparation, a proprietary apparatus for dry-jet wet-spinning of microporous polysul-fone hollow fibers, coating of these fibers with a variety of permselective materials, bundle winding using multifilament yarns and module assembly. Modules of the membrane identified as Quantro II are in field trial against brackish and seawater feeds. Brackish water rejections of 94+% at a flux of 5-7 gfd at 400 psi have been measured. Seawater rejections of 99+% at 1-2 gfd at 1000 psi have been measured. Membrane use requires sealing of some portion of the fiber bundle for installation in a pressure shell. Much effort has been devoted to identification of potting materials which exhibit satisfactory adhesion to the fiber while... [Pg.380]

For supramolecular assemblies, intramolecular processes may quench the emission of A to a degree which depends on the relative efficiency of the process when compared with emission. It is often useful to compare the photophysical and chemical behavior of the supramolecular species, e.g. A -L-B, with an appropriate model compound, for instance, AH, which contains the photochemically active component, A, in the absence of any units capable of interacting with A. For example, from luminescence lifetime measurements, the rate of electron transfer may be estimated by comparing the excited-state lifetime of the mononuclear model complex, tModei, with that of the supramolecular species, rsupra, by using the following equation ... [Pg.57]

The process flow-sheet does not show the unit processes in preparing the wafer, nor the final assembly and packaging processes. With higher and higher density chips, the assembly and packaging may prove to be a bottleneck. The choice of a particular unit process depends on a variety of factors including experience in using the process and economics. [Pg.8]

The assembly sewing process is the most labour-intensive part of apparel manufacturing. The progressive bundle unit system is common in sewing room design. Recently, many manufacturers have installed unit production systems as a means to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Assembly involves a set of workstations in which a specific task of a pre-defined sequence is processed. [Pg.240]
