The system should support all the inspection types available in the PSP-3 P-scan, T-scan and Through Transmission, TOFD and A-scan. It should be possible to record data for all the inspection types simultaneously. The developments in computer hardware, in particular disk storage, during the last years have made it feasable to increase the emphasis on the A-scan recording modes. It has also been feasible to extend the P-scan format to include P-scan image storage in a full 3D format, that allows cross-section views to be generated off-line. [Pg.782]

HammerMills. One of the most versatile, economical, and widely used impact mills is the hammer mill (Fig. 12). Many variations are produced, with special types available for specialized appHcations, eg, quick screen change for animal feed, heavy duty for minerals, and light constmctions for woodchip. The principle employed is similar to that of the impact cmsher however, the rotation speed can vary from 20 up to 100 m/s with high speed fine-grinding versions. The oudet screen is used to vary the residence time, which in turn affects final particle size. The size of the end product is an order of magnitude finer than the size of the perforations in the outlet screen. [Pg.144]

Fibers have been used by humans for thousands of years, but only in the twentieth century has there been such an explosion in fiber types available to the textile manufacturer. The advent of synthetic fibers possessing improved resiliency and dimensional stability has placed natural fibers, particularly cotton (qv), at an ostensible disadvantage. Before synthetics, various means to control the shrinkage, dimensional stability, and smooth-dry performance of cotton had been investigated, but the appearance of synthetics such as polyester has placed a greater sense of urgency on cotton interests to focus on the perceived deficiencies of natural fibers. [Pg.442]

Bimetallie elements are widely used in instruments sueh as thermostats to sense or eon-trol temperatures. There are several bimetallie element types available, sueh as straight strips, eoils and dises, but all rely on the same working prineiple. In its most basie form, the bimetallie strip eomprises of two dissimilar metal strips bonded together, usually of the same surfaee area, but not neeessarily of the same thiekness thermostat. The eom-posite metal strip is elamped at one end to aet as a eantilever beam, and is horizontal at a partieular temperature. When the temperature is inereased, the strip defleets in the direetion of the metal with the least eoeffieient of linear expansion. Its working prineiple relies on the faet that the metals will expand at different rates as the strip is heated. The purpose of this defleetion is to typieally eause the strip to make eontaet with a switeh or eomplete an eleetrie eireuit at a partieular setpoint temperature above the ambient. [Pg.240]

Available in metal only, usually used In batch and continuous distillation in small diameter columns not exceeding 24-inches dia. High fractionation ability per unit height, best suited for laboratory work. Conical and triangular types available. Not much industrial data available. [Pg.86]

The rotating type may be driven from either the top or the bottom whilst the vibrating type is always driven from the top. The removal of the tank head cover from top driven filters is generally more complex than those driven from the bottom. On the other hand bottom driven filters are more susceptible to slurry leaks. The position of the cake outlet depends on the construction of the tank bottom. There are two types available ... [Pg.194]

There are several types available as illustrated in Figures 7-39A, B, and C. See Figure 7-40 for specifications worksheet. [Pg.478]

There are a number of electric motor types available. These motors are classified by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). These electric motor classifications are presented in the NEMA standards [7]. [Pg.401]

Designing has never been easy in any material, particularly plastics, because there are so many. Plastics practically provide more types with the many variations that are available than any other material. Of the more than 35,000 different plastics worldwide, only a few hundred are used in large quantities. Unfortunately, some designers view plastics as a single material because they are not aware of all the types available (Appendix A, PLASTICS DESIGN TOOLBOX). [Pg.374]

Resins containing these functional groups are generally available in one or more forms for example, strong acid cation resin is typically a sulfonated polystyrene type, available either in the hydrogen form (H+ ) or in the sodium form (Na+). The sodium form of this resin is used for water softening. [Pg.327]

The more useful types of chirally active bonded phases are those based on the cyclodextrins. There are a number of different types available, some of which have both dispersive or polar groups bonded close to the chirally active sites to permit mixed interactions to occur. This emphasizes the basic entropic differences between the two isomers being separated. A range of such products is available from ASTEC Inc. and a separation of the d and / isomers of scopolamine and phenylephrine are shown in figure 4. The separations were carried out on a cyclodextrin bonded phase (CYCLOBOND 1 Ac) that had been acetylated to provide semi-polar interacting groups in close proximity to the chiral centers of the cyclodextrin. The column was 25 cm long, 4.6 mm in diameter and packed with silica based spherical bonded phase particles 5pm in diameter. Most of the columns supplied by ASTEC Inc. have these dimensions and, consequently, provide a... [Pg.291]

Safety signs of approved types, available from laboratory supply houses and safety equipment dealers, should be posted in appropriate spots. The door leading out of the laboratory should be marked EXIT, while the door to a back room should be marked NO EXIT. The location of a fire extinguisher must be clearly marked. Signs are available for every type of hazard. Homemade signs not conforming to official standards should not be considered. [Pg.54]

The phenomenon of gelation is best understood by examining some typical gelling systems. Inasmuch as each gel presents peculiarities of its own, it is impossible to discuss every type available. The systems chosen for discussion show properties that illustrate important gel characteristics. [Pg.13]

Structured packings are produced by a number of manufacturers. The basic construction and performance of the various proprietary types available are similar. They are available in metal, plastics and stoneware. The advantage of structured packings over random packing is their low HETP (typically less than 0.5 m) and low pressure drop (around 100 Pa/m). They are being increasingly used in the following applications ... [Pg.592]

Thus hydrogels form a tmly diverse class of materials. In fact, it is this diversity and flexibility in preparation that leads to their utility Many different formulations can be tested for a given application, and the formulation can be readily fine-tuned for optimal performance. In the following subsection, the range of hydrogel types available and their preparation are described. [Pg.488]

The thermoplastic polyurethanes are available in a more limited hardness range than the styrenics, and are characterised by excellent strength and toughness, and oil resistance. Of the two major types available, polyester (TPAU) and polyether (TPEU), the latter exhibits superior hydrolytic stability and low temperature performance. [Pg.117]

The characteristic tendency of hypovalent transition metals to interact in a side-on (T-shaped) manner with nearby alkyl C—H bonds has been designated as the agostic effect.45 Agostic M- C—H interactions can also be identified with general 3c/2e donor-acceptor interactions of 2c— lc type. Availability of suitable lc acceptor orbitals is a signature of hypovalent early transition metals. [Pg.483]

There is presently only one instrument type available, and its maximum m/z is set to 4000 Th. [Pg.39]

The working principle of the thermocouple was discovered (1823) by Seebeck who observed that if wires of two different metals were joined to form a continuous circuit, a current flowed in the circuit when the two junctions were at different temperatures. In order to make a measurement, one junction (the reference junction) is maintained at a constant temperature (typically at 0°C) and the electromotive force produced when the other junction is at the test temperature is measured, or recorded, by a suitable instrument (or used as the input of a controller ). In order to choose the right kind of thermocouple among the many types available, the temperature range to be studied must be considered, as well as several requirements regarding sensitivity, calibration stability, chemical, thermal, mechanical inertia, etc. [Pg.548]
