For the cross-section analysis, different bond properties must be considered by using the bond coefficients k = 0.7 and Kt = 0.9 for the internal reinforcement steel bars and the externally bonded strips, respectively. For compatibility relationships in the cross-section analysis, the mean values of the strains, s, in the internal steel reinforcement and ft in the EBFR can be used however, for the equilibrium relationships, the maximum values of the strains for the internal reinforcement steel bars and the externally bonded strips.

Strips of thermoplastic web are laid as a fine weft (Figure 21.4) the bonded strip is flat and has zero crimp, but certain resins can soften and loosen the adhesive strip. The resin strip does tend to be tacky and so the prepared fabric is stored interleaved with polyethylene fihn.

A wide range of boundary conditions and loading conditions may be applied to obtain solutions for a variety of adhesive-related configurations. Two conditions of special importance are the cases of either a concentrated force, P, or a concentrated moment, M, applied at the end of a long bonded strip (length > 5 ). D, was applied to conform the peeling strip to the roller. A force, P, was then applied to an unbonded strip to determine the value of P necessary to simply bend the strip and overcome friction. When a bonded strip was then peeled, the value of Gc was determined by the difference in the applied peel forces. This scheme has recently received a good deal of attention [60-62] and has been extended to include plastic bending around the roller and a more complete calibration scheme. The analysis given here is a somewhat extended version of that given in [60]. 

Lap Shear Strength (LSS) - A form of adhesive bond strength measured by pulling apart, in tension, two overlapped, bonded strips of material. One of the most commonly quoted mechanical properties of adhesives. Unfortunately the precise details of the adherends and conditions used for the test also have a great effect on the results obtained.
