Insulin is the principal drug used to prevent ketosis and sustain life in the treatment of patients with type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus. Delivery of proteins such as insulin is a challenge because of the molecular size and the sensitivity of the molecule to the loss of its biological activity through minor alterations in the three-dimensional structure. The normal mode of delivery of insulin to patients at the present time is through intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous injections. These delivery methods are not ideal because of (1) the need for training of the patient or the caretaker in the basic steps of injection, (2) the fear of needles by patients, and (3) the feeling of pain and possible fibrotic formation at the injection site. These inconveniences could lead to noncompliance. A variety of approaches for insulin delivery have been... [Pg.315]

Retention of information increases through repetition and the use of multiple delivery methods. Research shows that for most people, only 10 percent of information is retained through reading alone, without any kind of reinforcement through other training techniques. [Pg.53]

There are many training methods. The method to use depends on many factors, including subject content and delivery method. For example, there are few ways to reach the public or most product users. Sometimes producers can provide warning signs or user manuals only. Sometimes they use advertisements, notices through social media or features on radio and television shows to reach product consumers. [Pg.455]

Someone must create a training plan. The plan establishes the subjects, materials, and delivery methods necessary to cover all requirements for all participants. Some topics apply to everyone. Others apply to certain work groups or to specific position types or crafts. The plan must include the frequency of training. Some training occurs once. Some involves refresher training. The plan must position training into a schedule. Some training may occur over an extended... [Pg.458]

After five years as an analyst, Vicki moved within LGC to work on the DTI-funded Valid Analytical Measurement (VAM) programme. In this role, she was responsible for providing advice and developing guidance on method validation, measurement uncertainty and statistics. One of her key projects involved the development of approaches for evaluating the uncertainty in results obtained from chemical test methods. During this time, Vicki also became involved with the development and delivery of training courses on topics such as method validation, measurement uncertainty, quality systems and statistics for analytical chemists. [Pg.318]

Gather important information the agent used was it aerosol, liquid, gas, powder or vapor location method of delivery do you have the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to deal with the hazard, or have you called for assistance by a specialized team are you sure that anyone who enters a contaminated area has the proper PPE and is trained in its use be sure to establish control — keep all victims, non-victims and bystanders at the crime scene (if there is any suspicion of an attack) until it is determined who among them may be a terrorist or a witness perform decontamination, triage if necessary, isolation, quarantine, search and locate evidence, maintain chain of control, and collect samples. [Pg.64]

Major advantage of this method is that the methyl cyanoacrylate can be instilled by a specially-designed transcervical delivery device (31) by trained paramedical personnel and does not require a surgical procedure. Thus, this method may be attractive to developing countries with serious population problems. [Pg.381]
