Christie (1990), in an overview of TLC, asks the question Has thin-layer chromatography had its day . Comparison of this simple technique with the newer and more sophisticated high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) makes TLC look obsolete. However, as also agreed by the author, traditional TLC is still used and is likely to be around for many years to come.
