The Existing Chemicals Work Area of the ECB is responsible for the scientific and technical support to the ESR (EEC 1993a) regarding the first three steps.

Several technical papers have previously been presented or published which describe in detail the results of the initial studies involved in expanded bed hydroprocessing of coal extracts ( 5 - 9 ). Four DOE Interim Technical Progress Reports have also been published and are available for distribution ( - 4 ). The authors wish to refer to the above publications for an extensive description of the work areas involved and the conclusions derived from the prior PDU results. 

Adequate consideration of these challenges, opportune investment of the most topical work areas under the international cooperation and necessary technical support will allow avoiding considerable material and environmental damages and the related expenses for elimination of their consequences. 

To facilitate proper use of chemical substances, OECD is developing proposals for classification criteria and labeling of chemical substances in the area of health and environmental hazards and the U.N. Subcommittee of Experts on the GHS is playing a significant role. A Task Force on Harmonization of Classification and Labeling has been established to coordinate the technical work carried out by the experts. 

As part of the NAFTA Technical Working Group on Pesticides, priority areas for development of biocide applicator data have been agreed upon. These include, in order of priority, high-pressure spray, low-pressure spray, painting (roller/brush), wipe/mop, place solids, aerosol spray, painting (airless), pour solid, pour liquid and pump liquid.

It is important, that at an early stage a decision will be reached about the future distribution of working areas and about the allocation of technical resources. There has to be a clear separation between GLP-compliant facilities and those areas where GLP need not be applied. The... 

In addition to mechanical and electrical equipment, the technical service and development laboratory—the plant itself—must measure up to the demands made of it. Laboratory areas, work areas, and office areas are needed, but so are conference rooms, projection rooms, lecture halls and the like. Finally, and still in the process control subject, it is important to provide the technical and supervisory staff with suitable and convenient office space and related work areas. In all chemical processing, regardless of the control scheme being used, the eyeball contact with the process operations is important. This is the case, most of all, for the bulk drug pilot plant, as a great fraction of the activities are being done for the first time and repetitive processing is so infrequent. 

Employees will use their ID card to pass through the reception area into more secure areas. This zone contains offices of the laboratory director and support staff, technical staff workstations and meeting space. Bathroom, shower and change facilities appropriate to the size and amenities of the facility should be located in this area. Kitchen and dining space should be provided here because eating and drinking are not allowed inside any laboratory work area. 

One of the most important directions of activity of IAEA Technical Working Group on Fast Reactors (TWGFR) is assistance in the work carried out in different countries on preservation of experience gained in SFR area (including operation experience).
