In the European Union, coal-derived complex chemical substances, ie, those contained in the European Inventory of Existing Commercial Chemical Substances, have been classified for carcinogenicity in the twenty-first adaptation to technical progress of the European Commission (EC) Dangerous Substances Directive 1994 67/548/EEC (57). The EC Regulation 793/93 requires data sets to be submitted by producers or importers to the... [Pg.346]

European Commission for these and other substances by nominated dates. The toxicological data and estimation of exposure will form the basis of risk analysis and deterrnination of the appropriate restriction and control of substances in the workplace (58). Restriction of the sales of dangerous substances and preparations to the general pubHc is enforced under Directive 76/769 EC (59). [Pg.347]

The two most important pieces of chemical control legislation enacted affecting the dye and pigment industries are the United States Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) and EEC s Classification, Packaging, and Labeling of Dangerous Substances and its amendments. Table 2 is a comparison of TSCA and the 6th Amendment of the EEC classifications. [Pg.387]

The most suitable method of fast and simple control of the presence of dangerous substances is analytical detection by means of simplified methods - the so-called express-tests which allow quickly and reliably revealing and estimating the content of chemical substances in various objects. Express-tests are based on sensitive reactions which fix analytical effect visually or by means of portable instalments. Among types of indicator reactions were studied reactions of complex formation, oxidation-reduction, diazotization, azocoupling and oxidative condensation of organic substances, which are accompanied with the formation of colored products or with their discoloration. [Pg.374]

Elealth and Safety Executive Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances (EISE), Major Hazard Aspects of the Transport of Dangerous Substances, London HMSO, 1991. [Pg.70]

Benzene, which has been used as a solvent successfully and extensively in the past for reactions and purification by chromatography and crystallisation is now considered a very dangerous substance so it hasto be used with extreme care. We emphasise that an alternative solvent system to benzene (e.g. toluene, toluene-petroleum ether, or a petroleum ether to name a few) should be used first. However, if no other solvent system can be found then all operations involving benzene have to be performed in an efficient fumehood and precautions must be taken to avoid inhalation and contact with skin and eyes. Whenever benzene is mentioned in the text an asterisk e.g. C Hg or benzene, is inserted to remind the user that special precaution should be adopted. [Pg.80]
