The scope was also extended on the technology side. While one team investigated the potential for new biotech routes, a competing team tried to optimize the existing process, including analyzing different locations, and a third team searched for the best alternative chemical routes. In the end, biotech was just one of the solutions. Each potential solution was assessed the final one was chosen based on the best risk/reward ratio and backed up by further technical feasibility studies. [Pg.385]

Due to the similarities (same chemicals, etc.) a risk assessment for the PI plant can be based on that of the conventional plant. Additional information will be required from the outside consultants concerning the risk assessment of the new PI equipment. A technical feasibility study could be carried out in house, but to be more accurate this would be run in close conjunction with the outside consultants. Finally, a rigorous financial appraisal can be carried out in house, but will require some input from the outside consultants with regard to the capital cost of the new PI equipment. [Pg.384]

With all the information gathered from the risk assessment, technical feasibility study, financial appraisal and design concepts, as well as the input from outside consultants and companies, a comprehensive and accurate case for a PI solution can be put forward. [Pg.384]

The most economically effective area of SVBR-75 use could be the renovation of NPP units with thermal reactors after the expiration of their lifetime. Such renovation could be performed by installing the SVBR-75/100 modules in the steam-generator (SG) and the main circulation pump (MCP) compartments of these NPPs after the decommissioning and dismantling of the equipment installed previously. The results of technical feasibility study and economic evaluation of the renovation of the 2" , 3, and d " units of the Novovoronezhskaya NPP with the SVBR-75 reactor modules show that the specific capital costs can be reduced by a factor of two compared with the construction of new replacement power capacities [XIX-5] ... [Pg.512]

Having defined and gathered data adequate for an initial reserves estimation, the next step is to look at the various options to develop the field. The objective of the feasibility study is to document various technical options, of which at least one should be economically viable. The study will contain the subsurface development options, the process design, equipment sizes, the proposed locations (e.g. offshore platforms), and the crude evacuation and export system. The cases considered will be accompanied by a cost estimate and planning schedule. Such a document gives a complete overview of all the requirements, opportunities, risks and constraints. [Pg.5]

In the feasibility phase the project is tested as a concept. Is it technically feasible and is it economically viable There may be a number of ways to perform a particular task (such as develop an oil field) and these have to be judged against economic criteria, availability of resources, and risk. At this stage estimates of cost and income (production) profiles will carry a considerable uncertainty range, but are used to filter out unrealistic options. Several options may remain under consideration at the end of a feasibility study. [Pg.292]

The demonstrator whose goal is to establish feasibility studies and to size specific industrial tools is now operating in FRAMATOME Technical Center. [Pg.397]

Hiickel models of molecular electronic structure enjoyed many years of popularity, particularly the r-electron variants. Authors sought to extract the last possible amount of information from these models, perhaps because nothing more refined was technically feasible at the time. Thus, for example, the inductive effect was studied. The inductive effect is a key concept in organic chemistry a group R should show a - -1 or a —I effect (according to the nature of the group R) when it is substituted into a benzene ring. [Pg.135]

AS of this writing, 100% inspection by NAA of small arms primers in an actual production loading plant has not been implemented, nor is it contemplated in the near future. Technical problems exist related to coupling the present state-of-the-art nuclear components with the high production rates for the primers, namely, tens of units per sec per automatic loading line. The high intensity of the neutron source and the complexity of the detection system required detracts from the utility of the method in a plant environment where simplicity and safety of operation are of paramount importance. Nevertheless, the technical feasibility of the method has been demonstrated by the AMMRC study and future developments in nuclear activation hardware may ultimately make this non-destructive inspection for production primers more viable... [Pg.368]

Although obviously less expensive electron conducting catalyst supports have to be sought for practical applications, this study has clearly established the technical feasibility of inducing NEMCA on finely dispersed noble metal catalysts. [Pg.520]

Feasibility study (tells the technical and economical feasibility and environmental impact compared to one or several reference systems). [Pg.171]

The technical feasibility of a relatively low-pressure (less than 1000 psig) and low-temperature (less than 100°C) process for the hydrogenation of depolymerized (ammonolysis) Nylon-6,6 and/or a blend of Nylon-6 and -6,6 products has been described. While Raney Co 2724 showed little or no sign of deactivation during the semi-batch hydrogenation of the ammonolysis products, before and after C02 and NH3 removal, Raney Ni 2400 showed signs of deactivation even in the presence of caustic. Raney Co 2724 proved to be an effective and robust catalyst in a continuous stirred tank reactor study. [Pg.42]

The last stages, sometimes called the Kroll process, are shown in Figure 5. These represent the most expensive operations. Replacement of the Kroll process by a plasma-based route (Figure 6) has been studied and the technical feasibility demonstrated ( 6). [Pg.311]

Another consensus recommendation was that, when possible, methods to assess DIT should be included in existing developmental and reproductive toxicology protocols.1719,30 The feasibility of this approach has been previously demonstrated in studies described by a number of investigators.34 35 36 While it could be argued that DIT methods could also be integrated into the EPA Developmental Neurotoxicity Protocol (OPPTS 870-630037) the consensus was that this approach would not be technically feasible due to the large number of animals already required to conduct that study.7,19,30... [Pg.354]

Two technical applications of C = N-X substrates have been reported. Noyori s Ru-PP-NN catalyst system was successfully applied in a feasibility study by Dow Chirotech for the hydrogenation of a sulfonyl amidine [77], while Avecia showed the commercial viability of its CATHy catalyst based on a pentamethyl cyclopentadienyl Rh complex for the reduction of phosphinyl imines [78] (Fig. 34.11). [Pg.1206]

Studying variation in human genomic sequences may serve two general purposes to characterize genetic population structure and its history and to elucidate the genotype/phenotype relationship in individuals or families. Both aspects are strongly interdependent, and it is only with the advent of new methods of individual sequencing on a mass scale that they become technically feasible. [Pg.432]

Siemens-Westinghouse Power Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA, and Solar Turbines developed a conceptual design of an economically and technically feasible 20-MW, 70-% efficient natural gas-fueled power system that employs solid oxide fuel cells operating at elevated pressure in conjunction with an Advanced Turbine System gas turbine. The fuel cell, operated at 9 atm pressure, generated 11 MW of power. Two Solar Mercury 50 gas turbines were used to generate 9 MW of power. The results of the study indicated a system efficiency near 60 %. A low COE relative to conventional power generation is predicted. [Pg.276]

The fact that regulations required users of PERC to meet emission limits, ratherthan substitute PERC by investing in alternative technology, meant that few dry cleaners were bold enough to convert to new methods. A variety of safer substitutes have existed for over a decade that the Canadian and US governments have independently monitored. Both studies confirmed the economic and environmental benefits and technical feasibility of these alternatives. [Pg.11]

Sxploratory studies were also undertaken to examine the technical feasibility of application of RO/UF in industrial processes such as waste treatment for recovery of chemicals and/or reuse of water, and in pollution control. Some of the typical problems which were investigated earlier have already been reported (3). Other applications which were studied further are briefly described here ... [Pg.299]
