Industrial tools

The demonstrator whose goal is to establish feasibility studies and to size specific industrial tools is now operating in FRAMATOME Technical Center. 

Insofar as Ultrasonic Array probes have come onto the market from several years and are now moving from prototype stages into industrial tools for on-site inspections, methods and tools for acoustic characterization is becoming a real concern. Furthermore, the lack of standards, either national or European, enhances the needs for guidelines proposal. 

Coated abrasive products, once limited to sandpaper in woodworking shops, are versatile and efficient industrial tools. Machines ranging from portable Sanders to giant slab conditioners and roU grinders utili2e coated abrasives. Abrasive belt machines now perform many of the operations that were once the exclusive province of grinding wheels.

The hydroformylation reaction ( oxo reaction ) of alkenes with hydrogen and carbon monoxide is established as an important industrial tool for the production of aldehydes ( oxo aldehydes ) and products derived there from [1-6]. This method also leads to synthetically useful aldehydes and more recently is widely applied in the synthesis of more complex target molecules [7-15,17], including stereoselective and asymmetric syntheses [18-22]. 

When it lirst appeared as an industrial tool, the chromatograph was a single box with all of the components packaged together. Then it was considered...

Primarily and therefore at short term (excluding the effect of inflation), updating, etc.) the optimized economical use of this type of industrial tool can be characterised by the search for a minimum complementary investment (here rather a charge) for a maximum (respectively minimum) potential gain (respectively a loss).

Pragmatically, we want to use existing industrial tools, wherever possible. However, these tools have to be extended to better support the design process or cooperation within this process. In some cases, new tools have to be built, if the required functionality is not available. 

The result of these activities is not a ready-to-use industrial tool, but a suitable prototype allowing an evaluation and exploration of an integrated business administration system. Nevertheless, the resulting prototype has to meet certain requirements, mainly technical ones that enable its usage by our industrial partner. 

The catalytic era in world industry emerged hardly fifty years ago. For catalysis was accorded world recognition only in 1909, when Wilhelm Ostwald was the first to win the Nobel Prize for his work in catalysis and investigations into chemical equilibria and reaction rates. Three years later, the same honor was bestowed upon Paul Sabatier, who is also noted for his research in catalysis. Some time had to elapse, however, until this new industrial tool took hold in the petroleum industry. 

Appendix B, on the enclosed CD, contains a number of industry tools that are used by companies to conduct a risk prioritization. These tools are intended to provide examples, and can be modified as needed.
