Sorbitol 2,3-dimethyl

Performance criteria of clarifying agents are clarity, organoleptics, processability and nucleation. A typical third generation clarifying agent is the sorbitol acetal Millad 3988 (3,4-dimethyl dibenzylidene sorbitol). [Pg.777]

The inner etherification induced in the sorbitol and D-mannitol structures during polyester formation, made a study of their inner ethers or anhydrides a matter of practical significance. A new monoanhydride of sorbitol was described (21) and designated arlitan (from the initials of the Atlas Research Laboratory). Identification as 1,4-anhydro-D-glucitol was made by comparison of its sirupy tetramethyl ether with that obtained by acid anhydrization of Irvine s 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-D-glu-citoP by oxidation of the tetramethyl ether to dimethyl-L-threaric acid [0-dimethyl-L-((iea tartaric acid] and identification as the crystalline diamide and by its behavior on oxidation with lead tetraacetate. ... [Pg.443]

Jee couplings have been measured by Norrild for D-sorbitol before and after complexation with (5, 5)-2-(iV,iV-dimethyl-l-aminoethyl)ferroceneboronic acid. The results obtained provided strong evidence that a 2,3,5-bound sorbitol complex is formed. [Pg.151]

BPA is a known endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC), but this effect is sUght and has been known since the 1930s. This fear of EDC activity led to a total ban of BPA in polycarbonate plastic bottles intended for babies. The chemical industry was not really shaken by this ban as this use was only a tiny fiaction of the market. On the other hand, finding substances that rival the favorable properties BPA is not easy, and more significantly, not cheap. Isosorbide, which can be produced by artificial sweetener sorbitol, is a possible replaeement. A promising alternative of polycarbonate plastics is named Tritan co-polyester, and is made from dimethyl terephthalate, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM), and 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-l,3-cyclobutanediol (CBDO). However, replacing BPA in all current apphcatiorrs would be difficult, very expensive, and—most importantly—unlikely to save anyone from any harm. [Pg.296]

Examples of clarifiers include a number of sorbitol derivatives such as bis (3, 4 dimethyl benzylidene) sorbitol diacetal, and alumiitium hydroxy bis (4-tert-butyl) benzoate. [Pg.38]

High speed spinning procedures for the manufacture of high denier polypropylene fibers and yams require application of nucleating agerrls, such as dibenzylidene sorbitol, para-methyldibenzylidene sorbitol, bis-(3,4-dimethyl benzylidene) sorbitol, and sodium 2,2 -methylene-bis-(4,6-di-t-butylphenylene) phosphate. They are used in concentration of 2500-3000 ppm. ... [Pg.120]

The double dehydration of sorbitol yields D-isosorbide (l,4 3,6-dianhydrohexitol), a white, biodegradable, nontoxic solid. It is used in medicine to treat glaucoma. Other medications are derived from isosorbide, including isosorbide dinitrate and isosorbide mononitrate used to treat angina pectoris. The high thermal stability makes isosorbide interesting as a monomeric building block for thermoplastic polymers such as polyester and polycarbonates. The electrophilic alkylation of isosorbide with dimethyl sulfate yields dimethyl isosorbide, a colorless liquid which is used as a plasticizer for vinyl polymers and as a solvent in pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. [Pg.225]

Very many types of organic synthesis can now be carried out electrochemically, often more advantageously than by other means. Organic electrosynthesis, always multi-disciplinary, now includes photoelectrochemistry, electro-catalysis, bioelectrochemistry and others. Some of the scientific and technological developments which led to the present status of the field will be cited the use of potential control, the invention of the potentiostat, the combination of electrochemistry with spectroscopy, the use of ion-selective membranes the large-scale production of sorbitol, adiponitrile, and dimethyl sebacate. [Pg.172]

Water-soluble fusogens. Large decreases of the surface potential were observed when dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (dpPC) was spread on subphases containing glycerol, dimethyl sulphoxide, sucrose, sorbitol or poly(ethyleneglycol) of M.W. 1500 6000 3 x 10 or 5 X 10 (Fig, 1). Similar results were obtained for dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylethanolamine (dpPE). [Pg.226]
