Some Additional Thoughts

In developing countries, manufacturing facilities such as T and N need to establish company goals and objectives before a management or production control system is selected. For example, the United States assumes that its get rich philosophy appeals to everyone, whereas in the case of T, family time is more important than money. Consideration needs to be given to a number of factors, including

For example, in reference to N, the problem of blending high-tech engineoing, no factory-floor automation, and an excess workforce that is idle much of the time frustrates traditional production management philosophies. However, this is necessary when trying to satisfy the goals of the nation as well as those of the company. 

Once we have evaluated the climate of a particular production or management environment, how do we develop an appropriate system A unique system can be developed for each new environment, but this approach is not always practical. However, if we realize that every country of the world was a developing country at some time, then we see that it is appropriate to look at countries that have already developed production systems under conditions similar to the country under study. (This should be one of the primary applications of this book.)

Here are some additional thoughts to help you fine-tune your conversational skills. Check the ones you need to practice. 

School districts are capable of producing simple, easily understood plans that can be adapted for dissemination to parents and students. The remainder of this chapter is dedicated to giving some additional thought and practices to certain topics. It can be used to help develop or improve an existing plan template. 

Review the earlier writing sections of this chapter titled Define the Purpose and Profile the Audience. The same principles apply, supplemented with some additional thoughts about the audience. You might ask for names of likely participants. You may know some of them and that can help you shape your message. For example, you are a consultant and will speak to the local Kiwanis club. You learn that Mayor Susan Jones will be in the audience. As a result, you include in your presentation a comment about your firm s award-winning municipal projects.

Type F toxin was only associated with two reported outbreaks of human foodbome botulism prior to 1998 (Maselli, 1998). The first of these outbreaks occurred in Denmark (on the Island of Langeland) and was attributed to a contaminated liver paste product (Muller and Scheibel, 1960 Richardson et al, 2004). The second outbreak, in 1966, affected three individuals in California and was associated with home-made venison jerky (Midura et al, 1972 Richardson et al, 2004). While a few other type F botulism cases have been reported, they are generally thought to have resulted from intestinal colonization and type F toxin production by another related species, C. baratii (Hall et al, 1985 Richardson et al, 2004). A recent report of a type F botulism case in California provided some additional insight into this uncommon toxin... 

The drag force depends upon the particle Reynolds number. Different Co-Re relationships have been used in the past. Further, several investigators have attempted fluid-mechanical description of multiphase systems. It was thought desirable to analyze all these attempts in view of the discussion given earlier. Such an analysis is summarized in Table II. Some additional points are given next. 

In order to effectively produce chemicals from biomass pyrolysis, developers need to think beyond the mindset of maximizing production of liquids and stuffing these liquids into a combustion device. The proper thought process should be that of a chemical engineer - what can I make from this and what do 1 then do with it (to become rich and retire early). For a few specific chemicals that are identified through analysis and are easy to recover, no additional research and development are needed other than scale-up the commercialization problems are market related. Additional Comments on the Endocrine System. Some panelists thought the profile should review studies that have characterized PCB concentrations in follicular fluids, which could have implications for various target organs and effects. Others thought the profile erroneously... 

Two notes deserve mention. First, Dr. Rogan provided evidence that his NOAEL might be overstated by a factor of two, due to the use of an analytical method that is known to overstate PCB concentrations. As a result, a NOAEL of 0.05 pg/kg/day can be reported for the studies reviewed by Tilson et al. (1990) for the most sensitive population (i.e., embryos and children). (Note, some panehsts thought an additional factor of 10 should be apphed to his NOAEL to account for sensitive populations, but other panelists disagreed.) Second, the extrapolated NOAEL for the Tryphonas study was derived as follows The LOAEL in rhesus monkeys of 5 pg/kg/day was divided by a factor of 10 to convert the LOAEL to a NOAEL of 0.5 pg/kg/day in monkeys. This NOAEL was then divided by 3 to account for interspecies variation. Therefore, ATSDR calculated the NOAEL in the non sensitive human population as 0.166 pg/kg/day, rounded up to 0.2 pg/kg/day. To account for the most sensitive population, such as the developing embryo and fetuses, ATSDR divided the 0.2 pg/kg/day by a factor of 10 and resulted in an MRL of 0.02 pg/kg/day. As a result, ATSDR s MRL (i.e., 0.02 pg/kg/day) is lower than the NOAEL in the most sensitive human subpopulation reported in the studies reviewed by Tilson et al. (1990) (i.e., 0.05 pg/kg/day). 

Molecular mechanics bears little resemblance to any of the previous theories. Acting under the rationale that a chemical bond can be thought of as a spring between two spheres, molecular mechanics calculations build a potential model of the system using the principles of classical mechanics and some additional empirical corrections ... 

New Reoxidants for Dihydroxylation. Backvall has introduced some well thought out reoxidants for the dihydroxylation and asymmetric dihydroxylation processes. Hydrogen peroxide is the terminal oxidant that oxidizes osmium(VI) back to os-mium(VIII) by first oxidizing flavin (the product flavin-OOH in turn oxidizes an amine to its A -oxide in situ this A -oxide then acts conventionally in the dihydroxylation reaction).
