The field of corrected microscopes has just begun with the instruments discussed above. Several other naturally occurring antioxidants have been identified in oils. Sesamol [533-31-3] (6) occurs as sesamoline [526-07-8], a glycoside, in sesame seed oil. FemUc acid [1135-24-6] (7) is found esterified to cycloartenol [469-38-5] in rice bran oil and to 3-sitosterol in com oil. Although it does not occur in oils, rosemary extract has also been found to contain powerful phenoHc antioxidants (12). [Pg.124]

Soybean meal is the most frequently used source of supplemental protein in the United States (5). Cottonseed meal is another important protein supplement. Both meals are by-products from oil extraction of the seeds. Canola meal is derived from rapeseed low in emcic acid [112-86-7] and glucosinolates. Linseed (derived from flax seed), peanut, sunflower, safflower, sesame, coconut, and palm kernel meals are other sources of supplemental protein that are by-products of oil extraction (4). [Pg.156]

Sesame Seed (Benne, Benni, Bene Seed). Sesame seed is the whole dried seed of Sesamum indicum L. (PedaUaceae), an annual plant now cultivated in Mexico and Central America, although indigenous to Indonesia and tropical Africa. It may be the oldest condiment known. The seed is small, shiny, and oval shaped, about 0.32 cm long. The unhuUed seeds are dark and the hulled seeds are pearly white. Sesame seeds, when baked, have a pleasant, roasted, nutty flavor. They are used in baked goods and in confections, eg, halvah. [Pg.29]

Dronabinol. Marinol ( ii7R-/n7 j )-6i7,7,8,I0i7-tetrahydro-6,6,9-trimethyl-3-pentyl-6JT-diben2o(B,D) pyran-I-ol is the principal psychoactive substance present in Cannabis sativa F., ie, marijuana. It is a controlled substance, formulated in sesame oil and encapsulated in soft gelatin capsules for oral adrninistration. [Pg.204]

A wide number of proteia sources are available for use ia dairy substitutes. Certain small-volume injections are available where the dmg is dissolved in a viscous oil because it is insoluble in water non-aqueous solvent must be used, hi addition, drags in non-aqueous solvents provide a depot effect, for example for hormonal compounds. The vehicle may be a metabolizable fixed oil such as arachis or sesame oil (but not a mineral oil) or an ester such as ethyl oleate which is also metabolizable. The dmg is normally dissolved in the oil, filtered under pressure and distributed into ampoules. After sealing, the ampoules are sterilized by dry heat, for example, at 160°C for 2 hours. On the market are two drugs imder the trade names of Dronabinol, which is the generic name of trans-A9-THC, and Marinol, which is a medicine containing synthetic dronabinol in sesame oil for oral intake, distributed by Unimed Pharmaceuticals. [Pg.3]

A major class of nonaqueous solvents is the fixed oils. The USP [1] recognizes the use of fixed oils as parenteral vehicles and lists their requirements. When oils are used as vehicles in ophthalmic fluids, they must be of the highest purity. Vegetable oils such as olive oil, castor oil, and sesame oil have been used for extemporaneous compounding. These oils are subject to rancidity and, therefore, must be used carefully. Some commercial oils, such as peanut oil, contain stabilizers that could be irritating. The purest grade of oil, such as that used for parenteral products, would be advisable for ophthalmics. [Pg.460]
