Scientific index

Scientific index and effective model are essential for the urban resources and environment evaluating. An ideal evaluation system should not only reflect the status of resources and the environment, but also reflect the potential impact on urban resources and environment, such as the activities of human beings, regional features. 

The WLN was applied to indexing the Chemical Structure Index (CSI) at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) [13] and the Ituiex Chemicus Registry System (ICRS) as well as the Crossbow System of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICl). With the introduction of connection tables in the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) in 1965 and the advent of molecular editors in the 1970s, which directly produced connection tables, the WLN lost its importance. 

SCISEARCH contains bibliographic citations (links) to publications in science and technology. The database represents the electronic online version of the expanded Science Citation Index (SCI) and parts from the Current Contents of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). More than 5900 science and technical journals are included in the database with more than 20 million records (October, 2002). Searches can be performed on the bibliographic data, along with where, and how often, an author or publication is dted. 

Apart from a complete set of Beilstein s Handbuch and as many scientific journals with indexes as the Institution can aSFord, the following selected volumes are suggested as forming the nucleus of a small library for use in connexion with work in the organic chemistry laboratory.

Citation Searching. In the scholarly Hterature, authors cite earHer pubHcations that relate to the work being reported, thus a subject relationship exists between the citing and cited Hterature. This relationship has formed the basis for the Science Citation Index and related products, developed by the Institute for Scientific Information. Known as Scisearch in its on-line version, the Science Citation Index has become an important information retrieval tool in the second half of the twentieth century. It has been used for straightforward subject searching, in which mode it complements traditional indexed databases and indexes. It has also become a popular tool for hihliometric studies of various sorts, such as attempts to measure the relative impact of research carried out by different individuals or organizations, or the relative impact of pubHcations in different journals. 

Environmental RouteNet provides a single gateway to the world s foremost databases and information sources available on the Internet. The sendee includes searchable links to hundreds of carefully-screened environmentally-related resources, selected and indexed by the editors at Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. In addition, the site provides access to proprietaiy environmentally-related databases and to daily updates of environmentally-related news stories, regulations and legislation, plus much, much more.

With the publication of Vol. 51 we should also like to refer to editorial policy this series publishes invited, critical review articles of new developments in all areas of Polymer Science in English (authors may naturally also include works of their own). The responsible editor, that means the editor who has invited the article, discusses the scope of the review with the author on the basis of a tentative outline which the author is asked to provide. Author and editor are responsible for the scientific quality of the contribution the editor s name appears at the end of it. Manuscripts must be submitted, in content, language and form satisfactory, to Springer-Verlag. Figures and formulas should be reproducible. To meet readers wishes, the publisher adds to each volume a volume index which approximately characterizes the content. 

Another publication is the Index of Reviews in Organic Chemistry , complied by Lewis, Chemical Society, London, a classified listing of review articles. The first volume, published in 1971, lists reviews from 1960 (in some cases much earlier) to 1970 in alphabetical order of topic. Thus four reviews are listed under Knoevenagel condensation , five under Inclusion compounds , and one under Vinyl ketones. There is no index. A second volume (1977) covers the literature to 1976. Annual or biannual supplements appeared from 1979 until the publication was terminated in 1985. Classified lists of review articles on organometallic chemistry are found in articles by Smith and Walton and by Bruce.A similar list for heterocyclic chemistry is found in articles by Katritzky and others.See also the discussion of the Index of Scientific Reviews, page 1638. 

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), besides publishing Current Contents (p. 1611) and the Science Citation Index (p. 1637), also publishes Index Chemicus (formerly called Current Abstracts of Chemistry and Index Chemicus). This publication, begun in 1960 and appearing weekly, is devoted to printing structural formulas of all new compounds appearing in more than 100 journals, along with equations to show how they were synthesized and an author s summary of the work. Each issue contains five indexes author. 

The publishers of SCI also produce another publication, called Index to Scientific Reviews, that appears semiannually. This publication, which began in 1974, is very similar to SCI, but confines itself to listing citations to review articles. The citations come from 2500 journals in the same general areas as are covered by SCI. The review articles cited appeared in about 215 review journals and books, as well as in those journals that publish occasional review articles. Like SCI, the Index to Scientific Reviews contains citation, source, corporate, and Permuterm indexes. It also contains a Research Front Specialty Index , which classifies reviews by subject. 

Information on laboratory safety is available from many places. The public library usually has material on federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Index to Books in Print, also available at libraries, lists all material published by subject, author, and title. Scientific book publishers will be glad to add new names to their mailing lists for announcements of new publications on safety.
