INDEX parameter

Searching of one or more on-line databases is a technique increasingly used ia novelty studies. The use of such databases enables the searcher to combine indexing parameters, including national and international classifications natural language words ia the full text of patents, ia their claims, or ia abstracts suppHed by iaventor and by professional documentation services and indexing systems of various sorts. Because the various patent databases have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other, the use of multiple databases is thus pmdent, and is faciUtated by multifile and cross-file techniques provided by the various on-line hosts. [Pg.57]

Inequation (18) the D(j k) terms are n-electron Slater determinants formed by the spin-orbitals numbered by means of the direct sum j0k of the vector index parameters attached to the involved nested sums and to the occupied-unoccupied orbitals respectively. That is ... [Pg.238]

The dielectric constant and refractive index parameters and different functions of them that describe the reactive field of solvent [45] are insufficient to characterize the solute-solvent interactions. For this reason, some empirical scales of solvent polarity based on either kinetic or spectroscopic measurements have been introduced [46,47]. The solvatochromic classification of solvents is based on spectroscopic measurements. The solvatochromic parameters refer to the properties of a molecule when its nearest neighbors are identical with itself, and they are average values for a number of select solutes and somewhat independent of solute identity. [Pg.81]

Physical properties involve tests of the physical index parameters of the materials. For spent foundry sand, these parameters include particle gradation, unit weight, specific density, moisture content, adsorption, hydraulic conductivity, clay content, plastic limit, and plastic index. These parameters determine the suitability of spent foundry sand for uses in potential applications. Typical physical properties of spent green foundry sand are listed in Table 4.5. [Pg.164]

One of the most popular such techniques is parallel tempering in the canonical ensemble, for which the index parameter is temperature [13-15], While parallel tempering (or replica exchange) strategies had been independently proposed on multiple occasions in various scientific areas, perhaps the earliest seed of the idea can be found in early work by Swendsen and Wang [37]. [Pg.287]

Altering the dry matter of the diet (DMD) had a significant effect on the dry matter of the larva (DML) and the dry matter of the feces (DMF). This finding supports assumptions made by Reese and Beck (33) that BCW larvae have a limited ability to regulate their bodily dry matter and that the DMF is poorly maintained in comparison to that of other insects. With the exception of the AD, the nutritional index parameters showed a tendency towards an optimal DMD level around 25%. DWE and DWG were positively correlated with this DMD optimum and with each other, as they are in other insects (59). [Pg.472]

The floodability index was calculated from the dispersibility, cohesion, angle of fall, and flowability index parameters. The values for this property ranged from 55 to 76. The most floodable material was lot 4405K5, and the least floodable material lot was the instant sorbitol, which is in agreement with the flow index and the particle size data. The... [Pg.486]

We now speciahze these general formulae to the common case that this mixing free energy is expressed on a per monomer basis. As a notational convenience we consider specifically the case of a polymer species mixed into a small molecule solvent, and use M = V2/V1 as the empirical polymerization index parameter. Then... [Pg.85]

To model the randomized motion of the Brownian particle, the concept of a random walk is typically used. A random walk is an example of a stochastic process, a collection of random variables parameterized by either a discrete or continuous index parameter [269, 314]. A random walk is a discrete stochastic process in which the state X at a given instant (defined by the index n) is related to the state X i, at step n — 1 by an offset that may be viewed as a random variable. That is, we have... [Pg.225]

On the other hand, since a model is a simplification of reality, it has been argued that every model is definitely false (Morgan and Henrion, 1990) one may say that one model is better than another, in the sense that it produces more accurate predictions, bnt not that it is more probable therefore, it seems inappropriate to assign probabilities of model correctness. A proposed way out consists in including the models into a meta-model parameterized with one index parameter whose values (1,2,... ) are associated to... [Pg.1632]

With the reference toughness curve approach, the RT m index first came into use as the reference nil-ductility temperature which is determined in accordance with the ASME Code, Section III, Subsection NB-2331. The reference toughness Km curve and the Ki curve for static crack initiation later came into use as part of Section XI where the Km curve was called the crack arrest Xia curve. Thus, the RTndt reference temperature index has become the key material parameter in determining the allowable (P-T) limits for plant operation and for evaluating RPV integrity as the result of extreme transients such as PTS. Note that several years ago, the concept of a different, directly measured fracture toughness Master Curve approach was accepted in the ASME Code based on the index parameter RTjq. This development is covered in detail in Chapter 10. [Pg.16]

The lower crosslinking efficiency of the dithiol derivatives may be attributed to a cyclization reaction between dithiol and the divinylsilane unit. The y-value, which is one of the index parameters for resolution, was 1.36, which is moderate compared with other common resists (y = 1 - 2). [Pg.374]

Basic formulas. Let us consider a differentiable function f(x) at three consecutive equidistant locations x i i,x , and x j+j, where i-1, i, and i+1 are indexing parameters. Here, we will assume that all grids are uniformly separated by the constant grid block distance Ax. Now, it is clear from Figure 20-1 that the first derivative at an intermediate point A between x i.j and x is... [Pg.374]

Still, the short-term distribution of the peaks is found to be well described by a three-parameter exponential distribution. This distribution was found to provide the best fit as compared to the Weibull and the Lognormal models. These latter distributions are frequently being applied in order to represent ice loading magnitudes. The conditional three-parameter model with the ice thickness (i.e. the constant h) as an indexing parameter is expressed as follows ... [Pg.2292]

In Figure 1 below, an arbitrary example is given of how the uncertainty in the quench index parameter results in an uncertainty in the interpolated efficiency and, under common LS conditions with moderate to high quench levels, the influence of the quench index parameter is often neglected. [Pg.225]

The decreasing efficiency at lower quench levels (quench index > 500) is caused by the window setting of 4-50 keV High energy pulses escape the window.
