Zentralblatt Chemisches

Publications of this kind are described as non-original. They are abstracting services and handbooks that catch the primary literature, condense the important contents, and make this information available (searchable). Secondary literature is not evaluated and is provided in both printable and electronic forms. Examples are Gmelin, Beilstein, Citations Chemisches Zentralblatt, Chemical Abstracts, or Science Citation Index handbooks include Houben-Weyl, and Landolt Bomstein. [Pg.239]

Chemical Abstracts Service. The Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society, has produced Chemical Abstracts (CA) since 1907. Since the demise of Chemisches Zentralblatt and British Chemical Abstracts CA has been the preeminent medium for documenting new pubhcations in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering. CA documents chemical pubHcations of all types. It is not a patent database per se, but its patent component is larger than most databases devoted entirely to patents. Thus, for example, the number of patent references in CA for the years 1991—1993 ranged from 95,500—99,400 per year. [Pg.55]

Although CA and Referativnyi Zhurnal, Khimya are currently the only chemical abstracting publications that cover the entire field of chemistry, there were a number of earlier abstracting publications now defiinct. The most important are Chemisches Zentralblatt and British Abstracts. These publications are still valuable because they began before CA and can therefore supply abstracts for papers that appeared before 1907. Furthermore, even for papers published after 1907, Zentralblatt and British Abstracts are often more detailed. Zentralblatt was published, under various names, from 1830 to 1969. British Abstracts was a separate publication from 1926 to 1953, but earher abstracts from this source are available in the Journal of the Chemical Society from 1871 to 1925. [Pg.1614]

The indexing of organic compounds described since 1922 has been taken over by the Chemisches Zentralblatt, which follows the system hitherto discussed. The collective indexes of this journal for 1922 to 1924,1925 to 1929, and 1930 to 1934 continue the classifying work of M. M. Richter. In these indexes the references are to the Zentralblatt itself. Each year of the Zentralblatt, from 1925 onwards, contains a formula index covering the annual increment of literature abstracted in this comprehensively planned journal. These formula indexes are amalgamated every few years into a collective index and individually they constitute the reference works for the period which has elapsed since the appearance of the last collective index. Consequently, when it is desired to have complete information from the whole literature about an organic substance, the following works must be consulted at the present day ... [Pg.420]

This injunction holds also for those who wish to make the best use of the references to the Chemisches Zentralblatt. From the abstracts in the latter the student must likewise turn to the original papers, and look up the journal mentioned at the end of the abstract. [Pg.421]

Chemiker Zeitung (Kothen,Anhalt). In Jan 1951 the name was changed to "Chemiker Zeitung ehemalsKothen (Stuttgart) and in Jan 1954 to Chemiker Zeitung mit Chemische Apparatur und Chemie-Bbrse (Heidelberg) Chemisches Zentralblatt(Berlin)... [Pg.791]

Additional abstract sources are Chemisches Zentralblatt, Analytical Abstracts, and the Bibliography Section of the Journal of Chromatography. As pointed out previously, any research journal may have an article in which GC was used. In this case, the researcher should go to the journal for the specific area and/or topic, for example. Analytical Biochemistry, Food Technology, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Journal of the American Oil Chemist s Society, Clinical Chemistry, Journal of Chemical Physics. [Pg.34]

The Lexicon of Stelzner should be consulted for references from 1910— 1921, while the formula register of Chemisches Zentralblatt, based on the same plan as Richter and Stelzner, continues the index. Volumes 1922— 1930 of this index have appeared and Volume 1930—-1934 is appearing in parts. A general register is also supplied by the Chemisches Zentralblatt from 1925 onwards. [Pg.4]

This article covers material appearing in Chemical Abstracts and Chemisches Zentralblatt to the middle of 1965 original sources have been consulted where possible. A certain amount of more recent work is also included. [Pg.278]

The Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index, commonly referred to as CASSI, gives details of the journals and related literature cited in Chemical Abstracts since 1907. In addition, CASSI contains entries for those publications covered by Chemische Zentralblatt and its predecessors from 1830-1969 and the publications cited by Beilstein prior to 1907. The most recent printed cumulative edition of CASSI spanned the period 1907-2004. Printed supplements to CASSI were published quarterly from 2005 to 2009. The fourth quarterly supplement each year cumulated and replaced the preceding three supplements, and was effectively an annual update. Publication of the printed edition of CASSI ceased in 2009, but CASSI remains available and updated in a searchable CD-ROM format (CASSI on CD, first produced in the 1990s). [Pg.7]

CASSl abbreviated title. CASSI (the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index) includes details on all journals cited in Chemical Abstracts since 1907, together with some cited in Beilstein and Chemisches Zentralblatt back to 1830. CASSl gives an abbreviated title for each journal, and these are widely used and recognised. ... [Pg.24]

Other major national publications of this type are the German Chemisches Zentralblatt, and the Russian Referativnyi Zhumal, Khimiya. [Pg.289]

Having obtained a reference from various sources or searches, one often needs to consult the original journal (the location of patents is discussed on p. ). The first step is to ascertain the full name of the journal, since it is the abbreviation that is generally given. Of course, everyone should be familiar with the abbreviations of the very important journals, such as J. Org. Chem., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and so on, but references are often found to journals whose titles are not at all familiar (e.g., K. Skogs Lantbruksakad. Tidskr. or Nauchn. Tr. Mosk. Lesotekh. Inst.). In such cases, one consults the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI), with the most recent abbreviations in bold print. CASSI is available in a 1907-2004 cumulative, containing information 80,000 serial and nonserial publications. CASSI also lists journals covered by Chemisches Zentralblatt and its predecessors... [Pg.1909]

A complete search of the chemical literature would entail use of Chemischer Zentralblatt, the oldest abstract journal, which first appeared in 1830. Collective and formula indexes started in 1930 go up to 1969. These collective indexes are more reliable than those of Chemical Abstracts for the period 1930-1939. [Pg.625]
