Schneider-2 cells

The polymer must have a high molar mass. PEG at a range of 6-20 kDa is commonly used (Ersson et al., 1998). Precipitation with PEG was used, for instance, by Demi et al. (1999) as one of the purification steps for the isolation of hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) from the insect cell culture supernatant of genetically modified DS-2 Drosophila melanoga-ster Schneider-2) cells. [Pg.303]

This cell line is derived from the late embryonic state of Drosophila melanogaster and is used to produce recombinant proteins, e.g. human a -antitrypsin. Schneider-2 cells are adaptable to large-scale cultivation in stirred tank bioreactors and show many of the properties of Sf9 cells. [Pg.5]

Transcript 1 mRNAs represent 11 percent of the desat transcripts. They are principally found in Schneider cell culture (Schneider cells originated from embryonic cells which became immortalized) but are less represented in embryos and larvae (10 to 12 percent of the desatl transcripts). In the adult they constitute only 3 percent of the desat transcripts in head but seem more abundant in testis (two out of two) and ovary (two out of five). In the proximal 5 -non-transcribed region are found two TATA and two CAAT boxes. [Pg.270]

Exposure of cells to fluorescent light during the culture period leads to photolysis of BrdU-containing DNA and a concomitant increase in SCE frequency (Wolff and Perry, 1974). Consequently, SCE cultures should be kept in the dark and manipulated under subdued light conditions such as yellow safe light. Furthermore, media used in SCE assays should be stored in the dark, since certain media components produce reactive SCE-inducing intermediates on exposure to fluorescent light (Monticone and Schneider, 1979). [Pg.225]
