The IMRD format, together with the finer organizational structure (moves) and language of the journal article, helps readers quickly locate the content that they seek. As a developing writer, it is important that you learn to present your content in these expected ways and places. As readers scan your paper, they should be able to quickly locate your topic, the nature of your work, the methods you used, and your conclusions. The use of keywords in your title and abstract and throughout the body of your paper is especially important. Because so many scientists now turn to computer-based technologies and search engines to find pertinent and current information, if you fail to use expected keywords, your work may be missed even if relevant. [Pg.48]

Make sure the ink is dark and easily readable. If the resume can t easily be scanned into the employer s computer system, or if it scans improperly because the ink is too light or smudged, the computer won t recognize those all-important keywords (even if you re totally qualified for the job), and you will get passed over. [Pg.62]

When a resume is scanned into applicant-tracking software, it s put through a scanner, which takes the entire document and converts it into digital form. The software then picks apart the resume, word for word, looking for specific keywords and phrases. For this process to work, the scanner must be able to read your resume clearly. Thus, it s important to format your resume and print it in a way that helps eliminate the possibility of computer error. [Pg.90]

The Toxicology Information Services at the Karolinska Institutet 1n Stockholm, Sweden, publish a monthly bulletin entitled Teratology Lookout. This excellent source of references of interest to experimental teratologists and clinicians is compiled by an advisory panel. The secondary sources Biological Abstracts, Biological Abstracts/RRM, and Chemical Abstracts and the MEDLARS data bases are scanned by the use of computer profiles to spot pertinent material. Keywords have been added to each reference, and most references include author addresses. The contents are divided into seven... [Pg.19]

The thermal characterisation of elastomers has recently been reviewed by Sircar [28] from which it appears that DSC followed by TG/DTG are the most popular thermal analysis techniques for elastomer applications. The TG/differential thermal gravimetry (DTG) method remains the method of choice for compositional analysis of uncured and cured elastomer compounds. Sircar s comprehensive review [28] was based on single thermal methods (TG, DSC, differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), DMA) and excluded combined (TG-DSC, TG-DTA) and simultaneous (TG-fourier transform infrared (TG-FTIR), TG-mass spectroscopy (TG-MS)) techniques. In this chapter the emphasis is on those multiple and hyphenated thermogravimetric analysis techniques which have had an impact on the characterisation of elastomers. The review is based mainly on Chemical Abstracts records corresponding to the keywords elastomers, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis, infrared and mass spectrometry over the period 1979-1999. Table 1.1 contains the references to the various combined techniques. [Pg.2]

A database research using the keywords textile and TA (including the methods DSC, TGA and TM A, which are explained below) showed a marked difference in their relevance for textiles. By far the most important is differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), followed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and finally thermomechanical analysis (TMA). Several books can be recommended for further information on these methods. " ... [Pg.166]

MIT s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Libraries Document Services department at http //dspace.mit.edu/ handle/1721.1/7582, one of the foremost institutions in this effort, offer the full text of selected master s and doctoral theses from all MIT departments. These include theses that have been previously requested and scanned by Document Services as well as theses from the university s pilot project in electronically submitted theses. Users can search the database by keyword, perform an advanced search with separate fields, or browse by author or year. All theses can be viewed as low-resolution (100dpi) greyscale inhne. gif images. The theses of some of their Nobel Prize winning alumni are available at htqt //hbraries. mit.edu/docs/nobeltheses.html. [Pg.269]
