Rubber dampens

Rubber dampens by transforming kinetic energy into static energy. This basic rubber property is utilized in protection against explosion and impact and effectively reduces or eliminates noise, vibration and water hammer in pipelines and reaction tanks with agitators. [Pg.4]


Drilco Rubber Type. See Figure 4-169 and Table 4-102 [56]. Shock is absorbed by an elastometer situated between the inner and outer barrels. This shock absorbing element is vulcanized to the barrels. The torque has to be transmitted from the outer into the inner barrel. This tool is able to absorb shocks in axial or in radial directions. There is no need to absorb shocks in the torque because the drill string itself acts like a very good shock absorber so the critical shocks are in axial directions. These tools cannot be used at temperatures above 200°F. Though they produce a small stroke the dampening effect is good [56]. [Pg.813]

MPR competes with crosslinked nitrile rubber for demanding applications (in the automotive sector, for example) needing oil and grease resistance, noise dampening, stress relaxation similar to vulcanized rubber, good bonding to PVC, PC, ABS. [Pg.657]

Rubber is also used for protection of other materials against fire, heat and wearing. Rubber gives excellent performance as a construction material, in vibration and shock dampening, in elimination of structural noise and is the ultimate material for sealing systems. Wear eye protection, laboratory coat, and nitrile rubber gloves. Cover the spill with a 1 1 1 mixture by weight of sodium carbonate or calcium carbonate, clay cat litter (bentonite), and sand. Naphthas are used in the rubber industry for dampening the play and tread stocks of automobile tires during manufacture to obtain better adhesion between the units of the tire. They are also consumed extensively in making rubber cements (adhesives) or are employed in the fabrication of rubberized cloth, hot-water bottles, bathing caps, gloves, overshoes, and toys. These cements are solutions of rubber and were formerly made with benzene, but petroleum naphtha is now preferred because of its less toxic character. [Pg.342]

Elastomers The zinc borate is an effective synergist of halogen sources and smoke suppressants in elastomers such as styrene butadiene rubber (conveyor belting, flooring), neoprene (wire and cable, dampening compound, conveyor belt), EPDM and PVC-nitrile foam (insulation foam), and so on.55 It has also been used in halogen-free silicone elastomer and EPDM, EP (in conjunction with ATH or MDH). [Pg.221]

To clean a drawing tablet, wipe the rubberized surface with a damp cloth (no detergents ). If there is a tough stain that the damp cloth won t remove, use a cloth dampened with denatured alcohol. After removing the stain, follow with water-dampened cloth to remove any residue. [Pg.241]

The use of rubber components in vehicles is extensive. Applications include sealing, vibration dampening, and trim. Most rubbers in power train applications are for seals and gaskets (Chapter 8). Chassis applications most often center around vibration dampeners (isolators) for heat exchangers, engine and transmission mounts, and exhaust line isolators. Sealing in an automobile is most vital and a chemist s skills are quite useful. Just as vital however, is the isolation and vibration dampening application of rubbers thus, some discussion time should be devoted to this subject.
