As indicated before, the maximum entropy approach does not process the measurements themselves. Instead, it reconstructs the data by repeatedly taking revised trial data (e.g. a spectrum or chromatogram), which are artificially corrupted with measurement noise and blur. This corrupted trial spectrum is thereafter compared with the measured spectrum by a x -test. From all accepted spectra the maximum entropy approach selects that spectrum, f with minimal structure (which is equivalent to maximum entropy). The maximum entropy approach applied for noise elimination consists of the following steps ... [Pg.560]

The raw array data acquired in GenePix Pro have to be pre-processed to separate signals from noise, eliminate low-quality measurements, handle missing values, and adjust the measured intensities to facilitate comparisons (12,13). Image analysis tools reduce the background signal and minimize the impact of poor-quality spots on the final array data (11,12). [Pg.186]

Especially in UV-VIS spectroscopy, improved diode-array spectrophotometers or other fast spectral devices will be favorable for the fine resolution as well as the enhacement of sensitivity of spectra and other electric signals. By rapid accumulation of many scans, the best method for noise elimination can be employed from a rational point of view, and in the shortest amount of time, without altering the shape of the signals. [Pg.167]

In order to reduce the false positive detection, the interslice noise elimination algorithm is employed. The aim of inter-slices analysis is to improve the accuracy of lesion regions detection. In general MRI screening, the position of a lesion may not change drastically between MRI slices. Based on this study, the centre of mass of detected lesion region between current and next slices is compared [11]. Equations (2), (3) and (4) evaluate the centre of mass for lesion regions and eliminate non SD-connected objects. [Pg.675]

Noise elimination -> Noise can be eliminated using either electronic circuits or software procedures. The hardware methods based on simple RC circuits can work well in potentiostats. More complex circuits may have names such as noise filter, noise jammer, or noise killer. Very helpful in protecting the electrochemical cell from external noise is the application of a Faraday box (cage). When smoothing of data is done with the soft-... [Pg.451]

The formatting of a database involves the creation of several types of files that are manipulated with specialized software. A source file containing raw analytical data is converted to a library file by reducing noise, eliminating unimportant data and compression. Associated exchange files enable data to be transferred in a standard format such as JCAMP/DX for spectrometric data and JCAMP/CS for chemical structures. [Pg.334]

Filters that output noncoherent detector statistics have, in our recent work [1], shown to be very powerful for grain noise suppression in ultrasonics. However, such filters require the operator to carefully specify a transient prototype as a model of the defect echoes which should be detected. Here a new approach is presented, based on the above ideas about perception, which eliminates the need for the operator to manually specify a defect prototype. [Pg.89]

After the signal emerges from the lock-m amplifier it still contains a considerable amount of noise. Most of the noise contributions to the signal can be eliminated by passing the signal tlirough a low-pass filter. The filter tune constant is a measure of the cutoff frequency of the filter. If accurate linewidth and g-factor... [Pg.1561]

Pulsed ENDOR offers several distinct advantages over conventional CW ENDOR spectroscopy. Since there is no MW power during the observation of the ESE, klystron noise is largely eliminated. Furthemiore, there is an additional advantage in that, unlike the case in conventional CW ENDOR spectroscopy, the detection of ENDOR spin echoes does not depend on a critical balance of the RE and MW powers and the various relaxation times. Consequently, the temperature is not such a critical parameter in pulsed ENDOR spectroscopy. Additionally the pulsed teclmique pemiits a study of transient radicals. [Pg.1581]

The real world is one of uncertainty. Suppose we are carrying out a reaction. We have obtained a product. In the beginning we observe a total uncertainty regarding the molecule. We have no information about its composition, the constitution of the skeleton, its stereochemical features, its physical properties, its biological activities, etc. Step by step, by routine experiments, we collect data. When the acquisition of the structural information is complete there is no uncertainty, at least about its structure. Well, we may not have perfect experiments, so this will require us to reserve space for the missing relevant information. However, it is rather more noise than genuine uncertainty, which, by the way, will never be eliminated. [Pg.203]

A true baseline output from an ion detector is electrically noisy and, if recorded as such, the noise would appear as a great many small (unwanted) peaks. By creating an artificial baseline at a voltage just above the noise, the small peaks are eliminated and only the desired signal is recorded. It is important not to set the artificial baseline voltage too high, since this would eliminate too much of the required peak. [Pg.320]

Uniform, rehable flow of bulk soflds can allow the production of quaUty products with a minimum of waste, control dust and noise, and extend the hfe of a plant and maximi2e its productivity and output. By conducting laboratory tests and utili2ing experts with experience in applying soflds flow data, plant start-up delays that can impact schedule and cost can be eliminated. [Pg.563]

As femtomolar detection of analytes become more routine, the goal is to achieve attomolar (10 molar) analyte detection, corresponding to the detection of thousands of molecules. Detection sensitivity is enhanced if the noise ia the analytical system can be reduced. System noise consists of two types, extrinsic and intrinsic. Intrinsic aoise, which represents a fundamental limitation linked to the probabiHty of finding the analyte species within the excitation and observation regions of the iastmment, cannot be eliminated. However, extrinsic aoise, which stems from light scatteriag and/or transient electronic sources, can be alleviated. [Pg.395]
