The odor of HCN has been described as that of bitter almond. The ability to detect the odor varies widely and about 20% of the population is genetically unable to discern this characteristic odor (Snodgrass 1996). A review of literature on odor thresholds revealed that the odor threshold for HCN can range from 0.58 to 5 ppm (Amoore and Hautala 1983 Ruth 1986). An irritating concentration was not reported.

This paper has attempted to present a comprehensive review of literature on separators used in various batteries. It is evident that a wide variety of separators are available and that they are critical components in batteries. In many cases, the separator is one of the major factors limiting the life and/or performance of batteries. Consequently, development of new improved separators would be very beneficial for the advanced high capacity batteries. 

This review of literature on tannin degradation shows that our knowledge of this topic is only very slowly improving. Only a handful of laboratories are currently involved in this area. Of these, the Indian laboratories have made several interesting investigations recently, presumably because they are very active in leather manufacture and need to control the toxicity of their tannery effluents.
