As found in commerce, the cinchona alkaloids are not necessarily pure quinidine, for example, may contain up to 30 per cent, of dihydroquinidine. Working with carefully pmdfied specimens of the four chief cinchona alkaloids and their dihydro-derivatives, Buttle, Henry and Trevan found the results recorded in the table (p. 471) in tests with malaria in canaries. The figures in brackets represent the dose of quinine necessary to produce the same degree of protection as unit dose of the alkaloid named. To the results are also added the data found later by the same authors, with Solomon and Gibbs, for some of the transformation products (p. 449) of quinine and quinidine. The Roman numeral at the head of each column refers to the type formula on p. 470. 

Sarracenia purpurea. According to Walti,i this pitcher plant on distillation with alkali yields a basic product from which on neutralisation by acid only ammonium salts could be isolated, which is said to be sufficient to account for the pharmacological results recorded for a neutralised distillate of the plant by Bates and Judovich ( (1) J. Amer. Chem. Soc., 1945, 67, 2271 (2) Ancesthesiology, 1942, 3, 663 Judovich, ibid., 1943, 4, 313). 

This explanation is probably applicable to the results recorded by Paesy, who found that with the homologous aliphatic acids the strength of the odour—as measured by the reciprocal of the smallest quantity that could be perceived—of formic acid is comparatively small, a maximum is reached with butyric acid and after diminution to the weak oenanthic acid, another maximum is reached with pelargonic acid, thereafter the odour diminishes very rapidly. 

Returning now to proton transfers in methanol solution, we see that the family of curves in Fig. 44, calculated with S = 185.4 is very similar to those for aqueous solution. The curve for a = 0.0 passes through its maximum at the characteristic temperature 185.4°K. We now find that we can interpret the experimental results recorded in Table 16 for we see in Fig. 44 that curves drawn for values of a between —3 and —4 pass through zero near room temperature. Very limited investigations have been conducted with this alloy system. The results obtained to date suggest that A1 co-deposits with Fe from solutions of Fe(II) in both AlCl3-EtMeImCl at 25 °C [46] and AlCl3-NaCl at 160 °C [100]. In both studies, the A1 co-deposition process was found to commence at nearly the same potential as the Fe(II) reduction reaction therefore, it was difficult to observe a well-defined voltammetric limiting current for the latter process, regardless of the technique that was employed. This behavior is nearly identical to that seen in the Ni-Al system [47], However, a comparison of the voltammetric results recorded for some of the other... 

The capability of determining the order of procedures, based on the user specification of the end goal along, and to know at what point computation should stop with a result recorded, is the implementation of the theoretical AI techniques described above. 

Convergence in order k was tracked for three different particle numbers, N = 10,30,75, and for two values of the interaction strength, V = 0.8,1.6. Comparisons were made by recording the percentage of the correlation accounted for using second-, third-, and fourth-order approximations, with the results recorded in Table I. 

In recent years, several pilot clinical trials, assessing the elfects of GH administration to ageing adults, have been carried out. Typically, trial duration is 4-6 months. A 7% increase in lean body mass and skin thickness, along with a 14% drop in body fat, was observed in one trial, although results recorded in other trials were less striking. More detailed clinical trials and cost benefit analysis must be carried out in order to fully assess the potential of GH to counteract some of the elfects of ageing in the elderly population. 

The 2-position of dibenzofuran represents an average of 88% of the total reactivity of dibenzofuran for protodetritiation, protodetrimethylsilylation, and benzoylation, which accords well with the results recorded for other electrophilic substitution reactions of dibenzofuran. In the reaction of the eight-membered cyclic carbonate rac-lca with KSAc in THF/H2O (see Scheme 2.1.4.21) the conversion of the substrate, even at higher temperatures, did not exceed 53% and gave a mixture of thioacetate 19aa and carbonate ent-lca in a ratio of 53 47. Formation of thioacetate 19aa with 84% ee and of carbonate ent-lca with 72% ee in a ratio of approximately 1 1 (Table 2.1.4.15, entry 1) showed that an efficient kinetic resolution had occurred (see Scheme 2.1.4.21). Similar results were recorded in the reaction of carbonate rac-lca with KSBz (entry 2). The results recorded after the termination of the reaction of the acyclic carbonate rac-3ba with KSBz in CH2CI2/H2O at 48% conversion also revealed the operation of kinetic resolution in this case (entry 3). 

In the reaction of a simple ketone enolate with a chiral aldehyde, the use of a zinc enolate may offer advantages in terms of facial selectivity with respect to the use of a lithium enolate. This is exactly the result recorded in the condensation of the kinetic enolate of 2-undecanone 140 with 141, the key step in a total synthesis of (-l-)-preussin 142, a fermentation product with antifungal and antibacterial activity (equation 77)169. While 2-undecanone Li enolate did not display stereocontrol when added to 141, an acceptable syn diastereoselectivity was displayed by the Zn enolate 140. 

Cell pellets are thawed at room temperature. Then each tube is sonicated twice for at least 10 s, with cooling on ice between each 10-s burst. The protein concentration is determined by a routine method (i.e., the Lowry method) and the result recorded for each cell pellet. 

In this section we shall consider the results recorded in the literature that pertain to the structures of the adsorbed species. Kinetic or catalytic aspects, as could be relevant to hydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, or metathesis processes, will be treated in Part 11. Spectra of the much-investigated alkenes are discussed in detail in Part I. The spectra of the other principal types of hydrocarbon adsorbates, viz. alkynes, alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics, will be analyzed in Part II. Most results are available for the type-molecules ethene, ethyne, ethane, and benzene as well as for the metals, Pt, Pd, Ni, Rh, and Ru. 

The latter, on reaction with methylamine yielded via the P-epoxide 373, the trans-a aminoalcohol 374, which was N-acylated to the amide 375. Acid-catalysed dehydration of the tertiary alcohol 375, led to the olefin 375, from which the key radical precursor, the chlorothioether377 was secured in quantitative yield by reaction with N-chlorosuccinimide. In keeping with the earlier results recorded for structurally related compounds, 377 on heating in the presence of ruthenium dichloride and triphenylphosphine also underwent a 5-exo radical addition to generate the cyclohexyl radical 378 which recaptured the chlorine atom to furnish the a-chloro-c/5-hydroindolone 379. Oxidation of thioether 379 gave the corresponding sulfoxide 380, which on successive treatment with trifluoroacetic anhydride and aqueous bicarbonate led to the chloro-a-ketoamide 381. The olefin 382 resulting from base induced dehydrochlorination of 381, was reduced to the hydroxy-amine 383, which was obtained as the sole diastereoisomer... 

The volume of tissue activated (VTA) by DBS is still the object of debate. Reference [12] developed a model to predict the effect of electrode location and stimulation parameters adjustments on tbe VTA and correlated the results of the model with clinical results recorded in a patient They showed that therapeutic DBS of the STN is characterized by a VTA that spreads well outside the borders of the STN (toward the internal capsule and thalamus). By increasing the voltage and keeping other parameters constant they observed that while rigidity continued to decrease, bradykinesia improved and then worsened (inverted U-shape) and side effects such as paresthesia appeared suggesting that both sensorimotor signs and side effects react differently to stimulation voltage. 

The Result Record contains fields for blocks of data for a given sample and run. For a chromatographic run, result data consist of a series of data records for each peak ... 

Archive and Retrieve Records. The VAX LIMS/DM provides utilities for archiving and retrieving old data. To archive, the user selects the sample I.D. s to be archived. The LIMS/DM ARCHIVE extracts the selected Analysis, Run and Result Records and stores them on tape or disk, optionally deleting them from the database. The tape or disks can then be stored off-site or in a vault. To retrieve data from the archive, the user invokes the LIMS/DM RETRIEVE utility which reloads the data in the database. The user selects the sample I.D. s to be retrieved and writes these to the LIMS/DMDB. The user can now access and use these records in the normal manner. 

Comment fields, generic test result records and parameter records are included in the database. These fields and records can be used without recompiling the database to store data, instrument parameters and comments which were not explicitly defined in the original database. The actual format and use of the data and parameters is determined by the application programs which use them. 

The test sample assembly is inserted into the bore of the mortar and the projectile is attached to the open end of the mortar. A pen is inserted into the hole in the pen-holder and a reference line is marked on the strip chart paper when the fully-loaded mortar is at rest. The detonator leg wires are connected to the firing circuit and the charge is fired. The pendulum swing length can be read from the results recorded on the strip chart paper.
