It is important to obtain details regarding isotretinoin (Accutane, Roacutane) treatment and history of keloid or hypertrophic scar formation. Isotretinoin use necessitates a delay period of 6-12 months (depending on the skin thickness and oiliness) until chemical peel is performed. Active acne is not a contraindication for chemical peel. In these cases the peel is combined with systemic antibiotics for 2-3 weeks. It is always advisable to consider isotretinoin treatment after the peel to avoid acne flare and scar reappearance. [Pg.93]

G. The sex of the test animals can also alter study results, because both regional skin thickness and surface blood flow vary between males and females. [Pg.372]

We examine the detailed structure and composition of skin below inasmuch as the ECM in skin is involved in sensing of external forces applied to the epidermis and transducing these forces into changes in skin thickness and composition. It is well known that increased friction on the surface of skin leads to thickening of the epidermis. [Pg.88]

Salicylic acid (SA) Human SC Abdomen, leg Propylene glycol containing drug solution applied to skin mounted on in vitro diffusion cell Penetration flux Differences in flux between sites were observed Correlation found between penetration flux and lipid content no correlation with skin thickness and cell layers. [Pg.3820]

Strange et al. [65] demonstrated that SEB induces eczema when applied to intact healthy and atopic skin. Skov et al. [66] sought to discover the mechanism of this effect. Inquiring whether the topical application of SEB to skin leads to the accumulation of T cells in the skin by a superantigen-mediated mechanism, they observed an increase in skin thickness and increased number of T cells in the skin peaking at 72 h. Application of SEB led to selective accumulation of the expected V(312+ and Vpi7+ T cells at the site, but not in untreated skin or PBMCs from the treated subjects. Thus, the enterotoxin provokes only local changes in the skin on this timescale. [Pg.120]

Oxiund et al. (08) found that corticosteroid treatment in rats for 14 or 60 days increased the strength and stability of lumbar skin collagen, but that 120-day treatment decreased skin thickness and collagen content and increased amounts of glucose were attached to the e-amino group of lysine residues in collagen. [Pg.51]

Testosterone (which is also present in small amounts in females) stimulates the growth of the male reproductive organs and promotes the development of the male secondary sex characteristics. It also affects body hair distribution, baldness, voice, and skin thickness and promotes each of the following the formation of spermatozoa, protein formation, muscle development, bone growth, the retention of calcium, the rate of basal metabolism, and the number of red blood cells in the body. [Pg.1239]

Drugs which are suitable for administration via the transdermal route include those of low molecular weight (400-800). Other factors, such as increasing the temperature and pH, decreasing skin thickness and increasing hydration by using occlusive bases such as ointments and the use of patches, can facilitate penetration of drugs into the skin. [Pg.665]

Blow the foam. Control the skin thickness and the foam density. [Pg.266]

The compressive strength of the foam is density dependent, and may vary within a single sample depending on (1) thickness of the specimen (2) skin thickness and (3) cell structure of the foam. Compressive strengths of 337 psi parallel to rise, and 311 psi perpendicular to rise on a foam of 11.5 pcf core density are excellent values. [Pg.269]

The orientation functions and birefringence are widespreadly used as measures of molecular orientation of injection-molded PPs. In addition, the crystalline orientation fraction, skin thickness, and annealing shrinkage are determined in the practice. [Pg.522]

Equating the two leads to p, = p - SR 3p/9r where S = Sk /(R ks). This derivation is useful for two reasons. First, it provides a direct relationship connecting S to skin thickness and damaged zone permeability. Second, it states that Pw = P - SR d ldr is much more than an empirical model describing skin... [Pg.347]

Another issue in describing dermal dosing is the dependence of the absorbed dose on skin thickness and blood flow to the skin in the exposed area. While the model does allow for the skin thickness to be altered for a given simulation and blood flow to the exposed area may be adjusted, data for these parameters are quite often only available for limited anatomical... [Pg.249]
