Research Needs and Future

This article discusses briefly the use of adhesives on the construction site in the context of structural repair and reinforcement the requirements and practical dilficulties in the work on site with regtirds to the strength and durability of the rehabilitated timber structure and the consequent need for queility control. It also highlights the characteristics and requirements that must be fidfilled by structural adhesives and reinforcing materials factors affecting performance and durability of bonded joints tmd ways to improve adhesion and durability. Finally, it points out some research needs and future developments identified by the authors. [Pg.272]

In this paper, we first briefly describe both the single-channel 1-D model and the more comprehensive 3-D model, with particular emphasis on the comparison of the features included and their capabilities/limitations. We then discuss some examples of model applications to illustrate how the monolith models can be used to provide guidance in emission control system design and implementation. This will be followed by brief discussion of future research needs and directions in catalytic converter modeling, including the development of elementary reaction step-based kinetic models. [Pg.13]

The review is organized as follows. Section 2 defines a systematic framework for fuel cell modeling research, called computational fuel cell dynamics (CFCD), and outlines its four essential elements. Sections 3—5 review work performed in the past decade on PEFCs, DMFCs, and SOFCs, respectively. Future research needs and directions of the three types of fuel cells are pointed out wherever applicable and summarized separately at the end of each section. [Pg.488]

It is hoped that this book will serve not only as an update and expansion on the agricultural and environmental sciences of the triazine herbicides, but also as a model for the discovery, development, and extensive research needed for future classes of agricultural chemicals and technology. Among the topics it covers are ... [Pg.10]

Throughout the workshop presentations and discussions, several participants made suggestions for future research needs and pointed out the funding challenges involved. Participants also identified ways to improve education and training in the area of bioinspired chemistry for energy. This chapter highlights those key points. [Pg.45]

A very good review article based on a panel study of status, future research needs, and opportunities for porous sorbent materials was published several years ago. It was pointed out that very significant advances have been made in tailoring the porosity of porous sorbent materials in terms of size and shape selectivity. Relatively little progress has been achieved in terms of chemoselectivity of sorbents based on specific interactions between adsorbate molecules and functional groups in the sorbents. Incorporation of active sites into sorbents is of high priority in the development of sorbents. [Pg.2836]

Various directions of future research needs and opportunities are discussed. These directions include the development of theoretical descriptions of the superconducting behavior and formation of high T materials, the synthesis and characterization of such materials, and the fabrication of corresponding wires, fibers, thin films and device structures, with applications such as in microcircuitry. New types of chemistry associated with superconducting solids and surfaces are also suggested. [Pg.307]

Small Research Laminator. The Process Development Area (PDA) of FSA received two ARCO Solar-developed laminators at the end of the contract. One of these laminators was modified for use with a strip heater. This configuration, with a boost-and-buck autotransformer power supply, was used successfully for some process verification and materials survey experiments. Assessment of future research needs and present equipment capabilities led to additional modifications of the laminator. [Pg.408]

This chapter details the technical procedures used to prepare and analyze lake sediment samples for cellulose carbon and oxygen isotope composition, considers important factors in the interpretation of cellulose isotope data, briefly highlights key results from recent applications, and outlines future research needs and directions. [Pg.374]

The report of the committee on Chemical Engineering Frontiers Research Needs and Opportunities [13], known as the Amundson report, outlines beautifully the picture of chemical engineering in the next decades. The report is quite optimistic about the future of the profession, and the authors of this book strongly share this optimism. Chemical engineering played an important part in human development in the last few decades and it is expected to play an even larger role in the future. [Pg.53]

Record keeping is an essential requisite of good market research. In the chemical field, call reports or visit reports are usually written by the interviewer and become part of the report in some cases and certainly should become part of the company or consultant files for future reference. Obviously, the call report serves a valuable purpose in the analysis and writing stage. Some market researchers have also found that cross-referencing call reports over a period of time allows rapid identification of the respondents who have demonstrated the greatest abiUty in forecasting their company needs and/or the needs of their industry. [Pg.535]

Obviously, with the development of the first catalytic reactions in ionic liquids, the general research focus turned away from basic studies of metal complexes dissolved in ionic liquids. Today there is a clear lack of fundamental understanding of many catalytic processes in ionic liquids on a molecular level. Much more fundamental work is undoubtedly needed and should be encouraged in order to speed up the future development of transition metal catalysis in ionic liquids. [Pg.229]

Alternative Futures for the Department of Energy National Laboratories The Galvin Report and National laboratories Need Clearer Missions and Better Management, A GAO Report to the Secretaiy of Energy. Washington, DC U.S. Government Printing Office. [Pg.820]

To date, insufficient attention has been given to the economics of pest control. Most reports dealing with pest control include no data on the economics of the methods used. Complete and accurate information about the economics of pest control is needed to guide future research projects and advance the technologies of pest control. [Pg.318]

Future studies must focus on those specific agricultural technologies that have contributed to the increased use of pesticides during the past 40 years, and why crop losses to pests continue to Increase. Research needs not only to identify the detrimental technologies, but, more Important, develop ecologically sound practices that farmers can use as profitable substitutes (15). [Pg.321]
