The next major developments in advertising research were studies which measured reader comprehension of an advertisement. These studies required the person who claimed to have read an advertisement to play back to the interviewer the principal message of the advertisement as he or she understood it. Various types of comprehension services are being used and they are valuable in indicating the degree to which the advertisers message is actually being communicated to the mind of the reader. [Pg.60]
